Tchra. 4)1 Your observer would like to present detailed analysis Of all this and other features of the season, like the System did in some post-Thonksglving releases a season in prewar years. Lots of debunking would be in order. Sho' nuff every reason. But that's all now folks.

That's the term the Williamson football system would use if required to anticipate the 1945 season in one word." Yes, that's how this observer back in September started off his preview of the 1945 grid season. FITFUL IS RIGHT. It was one of the most upsetting football season in many a month of Sundays. The final ratings show it, and the final Saturday of the regular season was one of the most upsetting gridiron endings in history. Even one of the first ten college leaders of the previous week dropped out.

In fact, among the 20 leading games' of the last week there were nine upsets; Including such things as the shocking 39-7 defeat of Notre Dame by Great Lakes, the unexpected 19-14 setback of Rice by Baylor, and other crazy scores. Also as suggested in last September's Williamson preview there was less dependence during the season on freshman players than last year, and on the average there were more evenly matched scores and fewer big scoring contests. Yes, there were some adding machine scores, but most of the relatively few top heavy deci Tutors rally to nip Paced by Kenneth Sawyer, Teachers high overcame an 8-3 deficit at halftime and edged Roca high, 18-14, at the NU coliseum Tuesday afternoon. Seidschag's long shots in the first half gave the Roca crew an early lead, but Sawyer came thru with four buckets in the last half and aided by fielders from teammates Cropp and Cransant edged out the visitors. Sawyer was the whole show in the winning drive, collecting 11 points, while "Seidschag came thru with nine of Roca's 13 counters.

It was the first win of the season for Harry Reed's Tutors in two starts. The coaching mystery deepens. We called upon those legendary gentlemen on Baker street Mr. Sherlock Holmes and the good Dr. Watson to help solve the "Epi sode of the Missing Letter" last week. Today we seek their help In solving another case.

A. Conan Doyle, long in his grave, probably would refer to it as "The Tale of the Absent Committee." MR. HOLMES (not to be con fused with George Holmes, a member of the board) issued the following communique on devel opments on the case late Tuesday evening: 1. The entire committee picked to select a successor to Col. Biff Jones A.

J. Lewan-dowskl, Dean T. J. Thompson, Roy Green, Clarence Swanson and John K. Belleck were out of the city Tuesday.

2. Henry Frnka, In a telephone conversation with The Journal, stated that be bad bad no contact with any member of the athletio board or rerenta since last sprlnr. 4. Howard "Howie" Dell, head coach at Yale, mentioned as a possible successor, to Colonel Jones, was knowrfto be in New Haven Tuesday eveninf and certainly not In contact with the Nebraska group. 4.

Don Faurot, athletic director and head coach at Missouri before the war, Was the speaker at a Titer banquet Monday nlcht at Columbia, Ma. Therefore he probably Is not under consideration, for Lewandowskl and Selleck, who were out of the city Monday, moat have been la contact with THE candidate or candidates on that date before calling in the rest of the committee. ALMOST IF NOT entirely alone in nationwide writing or broadcasting, the Williamson System suspected that Alabama would be this season's pride of the South. Indeed, the System hinted three months ago that Coach Frank Thomas' Alabama boys might be runners up to Army (or Navy) at the end of the season.

Yea, boy! And besides that we spoke well of Coach Bernie Moore's L.S.U. Tigers and we posed Tennessee as the dark horse. The last two did right pert (pronounced piert like in pierce). Oh yes, this writer is a professional geologist. There are mighty few swamps in Alabama.

Like most persons brave enough or foolish enough to prophesy a football season's outcome, the Williamson System missed mark in 1945 in calling the turn on leadership in the Midwest, the Southwest and the Missouri Valley, Altho we did pick Missouri, 1945 Big 6 champions, at third and we pre-put Ohio State second and Purdue third. Nobody noticed Indiana. AU the more credit to the Hoosiers for copping the Big Ten title clearly. WILLIAMSON 1945 CHAMPIONS. As of Dec.

The Pa cific Coast league voted Tuesday to become a major league beginning with the 1946 season, sub ject to approval of Baseball Com missioner A. B. Chandler, president of the two current major leagues and the minors' organization.

President Clarence Rowlund of the Coast who Issued a formal statement following an afternoon-long meeting, pointed out that the loop previously had expressed a determination to be come a major league. He quoted the resolution adopted as saying: "RESOVED that the Pacific Coast league now become a majoi league and to be such beginning with the 1946 season, but provided that it must obtain approval of the commissioner of baseball, of the presidents of the two major leagues and the national association, and that it be accepted as a major league in organized baseball and remain therein."
