Charleston Chattanooga SR Chicago Cincinnati ..79 Cleveland ,71 State News in Brief; GermanGirlFavors Death to Return Refugee Is Held On Forgery Charges Miami, Aug. 21 (INS). A blonde, 25-year-old German refugee, held by police here and accused of forging, "counter-signed" names to 19 checks, pleaded today that she not be returned to her native land.

Facing probable deportation, Mrs. Ellen Cutler, divorcee who came to America from Berlin in 1939, told police: "They can send me to jail. I'll work as long as is necessary to pay the money back but I'd rather die than go back to Germany." If Mrs. Cutler is convicted on any of the criminal charges against her and sentenced to a year or more in prison her deportation will be mandatory, said County Solicitor Robert Taylor. Mrs.

Cutler is charged with forging the checks and obtaining $4670 from them within a month. The refugee said she has been living in Miami Beach since 1944. Before then, she lived in New York. JAYCEES EXPECT CROWD Ocala, Aug. 21 (JP).

With fewer than half of the Junior Chamber of Commerce organizations in Florida heard from, nearly 100 delegates have signified their intention of attending the Jaycees' mid-Summer state conference here Saturday and Sunday. ADS HELP, BUT TEXAS TOPS Lakeland, Aug. 21 (JP). Florida Citrus Commission's advertising program has created increased demand for Florida canned grapefruit juice in Mississippi and Louisiana, but Florida still is not giving the Texas product any serious competition in those markets. Robert W.

Moore, sales representative for the Commission in that territory, in making this report, said the ratio of Texas to Florida canned grapefruit juice sold as high as 25 to 1. Much of this success has been obtained by popularizing brand names of certain Texas products, Moore said. BARGAIN DAY Clearwater, Aug. 21 (JP). Toy Town, a Boomtime community near Pinellas Airport where lots sold during the 1925 real estate boom for as much as $1000 each, has been purchased for $5 by County Commissioners from State Internal Improvement Board.

The land, including several hundred lots and thousands of pine trees, will be dug up for marl, said Commissioner D. Orville Harris. SECESSION Sarasota, Aug. 21 (JP). A movement to form a new county from the southern portion of Sarasota County has reached the point where a cash prize of $25 has been offered for the "most suitable name" for the proposed new unit.

The proposal, which originated in Venice, is attracting support in that area, but is considered to have little chance of success throughout the county as a whole. BIDS FOR TWO ISLANDS Tallahassee, Aug. 21 (JP). Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund have received a bid of $1000 an acre for two small islands southeast of Sewall's Point, in Indian River. No action was taken because a quorum was not present.

The islands, totaling about five acres, are sought by William Pitchford for a sports fishing pavilion. REVIVED AFTER 37 YEARS Sanford, Aug. 21 (JP). Slaughter, 58. Rt. 5, Box 54 Dewey and Bilbo Vow War to End Ideologies of New York, Mississippi Collide Washington, Aug. 21 (JP). Governor Dewey of New York and Senator Bilbo achieved a standoff in pledges today: 1.

Dewey has guaranteed "there will be no Bilboism" in New York while he is governor. 2. Bilbo has promised "there will be no Deweyism in Mississippi as long as I live." Dewey made his statement to an AFL convention at Rochester Monday. Replying last night in an interview, Bilbo said: "Deweyism to the people of my state means FEPC, Negro social equality, intermarriage between whites and blacks, hoodlumism, gangsterism, rape and the life of some poor Negro, on an average of one a night, year-round, snuffed out in blackest Harlem." As for Dewey's declaration that there will be no New York meetings of the Ku Klux Klan "or any group like it," Bilbo commented: "The Klan has always stood for the American flag, constitutional government and the American way of life." Volusia County had a new re-districting plan today which will give the populous Daytona Beach area two County Commissioners and a small voice in the election of a third. The new set-up, ratified by Circuit Judge May Walker, is designed to make the County's five districts more nearly equal in population. Under the old division, Daytona had only one vote on the five-man board.
