Commissioners were told the crew would be considered a super-crew and its function would be strictly new construction. The current street crew would be left for maintenance only on the streets, utility systems and parks. City Manager Dale Mills said maintenance work has been neglected during the 1972-73 budget year. "IF OUR CAPITAL improvements project were constructed with our own personnel it would reduce our engineering costs, preparation of detailed plans and specifications, advertising of bids, execution of contracts, performance bonds and insurance requirements and inspection of the constructions phase of the project," Mills sad.

It was estimated the additional crew would cost the city $72,000 yearly in salaries. "WE HAVE a good maintenance crew and they do a good job," Mills said. The current employes would have an opportunity to apply to become members of the work crew. "Our dollar doesn't go as far as it did two years ago," said Public Works Director Bill Drummond. "In order to save people money we have to improve the operation." City Commissioner Merle Zamzow opposed me move.

Commissioners also approved the preliminary and final plat for the Jill-Joy subdivision on North 19th Street.

He said the well drilled in 1971 had the same capacity but "they've already absorbed that well."
