The question is, where has Miss Weld been all this time? "Let's see," Miss Weld told a reporter in a telephone interview, "I must have been doing something for the past four years. I know I did a couple of television shows and, oh yes of course I got pregnant, and married, and had a baby. That took a couple of months." Does Bhe answer to the title of Mrs. Dudley Moore? Another Douglas eyes the screen Peter Douglas, younger brother of Michael and son of Kirk, wants a "Cuckoo's Nest" of his own. "Cuckoo," of course, was the smash motion picture which Michael produced.

And now Peter's putting together a film project which he hopes will hoist him from the status of still photographer to hot-shot producer. He already has offers out to Charlotte Rampling and Bruce Dern to costar in his "The Yellow Jersey" story about bicycle racing. And already he has been assured that his father will lend his support to the cast and to the financing. NOW AT: 2:30 4:19 6:00 7:45 "IT IS A JNRU A IWKT ITUNGCI. "Sometimes she's totally crazy. But Barbra is a very gentle, understanding, giving human being who has helped me through a lot of difficult times Ultimately, we respect each other. And, we share the same dreams." ONE OF THOSE is the latest remake of "A Star Is Born," a $6-million effort that credit Peters as producer nd Streisand as executive producer as well as starring with Kris Kristofferaon. Barbra is putting the finishing touches on the film now, working 16 hours a day, seven days week. If the Jon Peters life story is every filmed, Al Pacino could play the part.

Peters is darkly handsome in the Pacino manner, bearded and wiry, and he projects an air of boyish, street-smart moxie much like Pacino's. Peters' rapid rise in the film industry, concomitant with his love affair with its No. 1 female star, has given him the reputation of an opportunist. There were reports that the superstar was so enthralled with Peters that she wanted him to produce, direct, write and even costar in "A Star Is Born." It seemed odd, considering that Peters' previous film experience consisted of a few days' work as an extra in "The Ten Commandments" when he was eight years old. All of those outlandish thoughts did occur, Peters admits, although he claims the suggestion that he replace Kristofferson was only "a five-minute idea." PEOPLE FIND themselves liking Peters more than they thought they would.

Barbara Walters, for instance, who spent two days with Peters and Streisand last month filming an interview to be broadcast in December, said, "I liked him. There is a disarming candor about him, and Peters seems to enjoy playing it for all its worth. Ask him how he answers people who claim he is where he is just because he found himself the right girlfriend, and Peters replies: 'I would say they're absolutely right. Without Barbra I wouldhever have been able to produce a movie. But that's just the first step.

After that, you have to produce it." The myth that has come down is that it is Peters' "fighting" quality that first endeared him to Streisand. The story goes that Peters was summoned to the star's Holmby Hills home to give her hair a new look. She kept him waiting 90 minutes, then descended the staircase as he was on his way out the door. "Don't you ever do that again," Peters is said to have said. For Streisand, weary of yes-men, it was music to her ears.

"She was a girl, and I had never realized that," Peters said. I was very surprised that she was little and petite and had a pretty body. In "A Star Is Born," Peters promises "a beautiful, sensual Barbra, the Barbra I have experienced." Tuesday reappears in 'Play' Fans of Tuesday Weld, the vivacious teenage tease in films of the 1950s who vanished from the screen after giving a compelling performance in "Play It As It Lays," will be relieved to hear that she is about to surface again.
