The 45 points were the most ever scored by UCLA against the Trojans in the 40 times they had met and it snapped a streak of three straight USC wins over the Bruins. Edouard Cyril "Newsy" La-londe, a Canadian hockey and lacrosse star for 21 years at the beginning of this century, died yesterday at the age of 83. Lalonde once scored nine goals in one hockey game and led National Hockey League scorers four times between, 1910 and 1921. He is a member of hockey's Hall of Fame. Before a partisan crowd of 78,773 in the Coliseum, the Bruins snapped back from a 61-20 loss to Washington in the nationally-televised encounter to pile up a 24-point lead at halftime and then trade touchdowns with the Trojans in the second half. Colorado Shakes Up Air Force AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. Colorado shook of earlier disappointments to play its best football in the season yesterday in van-quishing lOth-ranked Air Force 49-19. Macon Hughes scored Rice's first touchdown on a school record 99-yard kickoff return and set up Williams' field goal with a 48-yard run from the Rice 22 to the TCU 30. Tailback John Cardwell, who gained 215 yards in 30 carries for another school record, scored Rice's other touchdown on a 74-yard run.

Williams kicked both extra James Hodges, who had scored only once in his career, made both TCU touchdowns on runs of one and nine yards in the fourth quarter. (UPI) Penn State's "super subs," Lydell Mitchell and Franco Harris, ran for almost 200 yards and accounted for three touchdowns yesterday to power the Mittany Lions to a 35-15 triumph over Pitt. The victory brightened State's hope for a bowl bid. Practically never starters, but major cogs in Penn State's rotating attack, Harris and Mitchell virtually were unstoppable, especially in the first half when the Lions scored all their points.

Mitchell rushed for 10 yards, and Harris added 87, including three touchdowns. Harris' scores came on a 39-yard burst off tackle in the first period and two one-yard blasts in the second period which saw Penn State score 21 points.
