Barton New Head At Booth Appointment of Maj. Ellen Barton as superintendent of Booth Memorial Hospital has meant a return to a familiar locale for the English-born Salvation Army officer. Early in her 20-year career with the Army she served at the Oakland hospital as assistant to Col. Ruth Pagan, then superintendent. Between that time and her return as superintendent in mid-July she has been at Booth Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, in Boise, Idaho, for two years, and in Portland, for nine years as superintendent of the White Home and E.

Henry Wemme Memorial Hospital. She succeeds Maj. Helen Smeeten, who was transferred to San Francisco to head the personnel, territory department of the of the organization. Major Barton's first weeks here have been busy ones, getting, re-acquainted with the hospital and getting to know the Booth Hospital Auxiliary, organized during her absence. The auxiliary now numbers 600 women whose aim is to assist the hospital financially and through volunteer services.

MAJOR ELLEN BARTON returns to Booth Roger Brown, Bride Take Trip to Tahoe Gladioli, snapdragons and ferns decked the Castro Valley Methodist Church for Saturday afternoon's ceremony at which Judith Ann Sellmeyer became the bride of Roger Lee Brown. Judith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert G. Sellmeyer of Via Pacheco, San Lorenzo, and was escorted to the altar by her father.

Her bridegroom is the son of the Lawrence H. Browns of Via Ventana in the same community, A floor length gown of silk organza with five tiered skirt was worn by the bride, with elbow length veil and pearl orange blossom wreath. She carried white orchids. Martha Brown was the honor attendant, in blue organza with white embroidered daisy border, and in similar gowns in yellow were Sharon Evans, Lynn Bowen, Maire Lindquist, Jackie Sudbury and Pat Shipler. Best man was Larry Brown, and ushers were Fred Shipler, Dave Lawrence, Bill Brown, Richard Addis and Tom Averitt.

The reception followed in the church Fellowship Hall, and the newlyweds left fof a honeymoon at Lake Tahoe. They'll return to. make their home in Hayward. Charles Exner of Oak Park Walnut Creek, and she and her bridegroom are both graduates of, Whitworth College at Spokane, Wash. Both have been graduate students at Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, N. and will return there this fall for Mr. Phillips to Will Marry In Seattle Being announced by Mr. and Mrs.

John F. Kavanagh, of Cary Drive, San Leandro, is the engagement, of their daughter, Joan Marie, to John F. Zehnder of Bellingham, Wash. Joan is a graduate in history from the University of California, where she 'affiliated with Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She received her teacher's certificate at Seattle University.

At San Lorenzo High School, where she did her preparatory work, she was student body vice president. Her fiance, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Zehnder of the northern city, was graduated from Seattle U.

in electrical engineering. He is a member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. Aug. 29 has been set as the wedding date, the ceremony to take place in Seattle.
