(AP) "Pifc Srj BY RODNEY ANGOVE PARIS Ml The Soviet and Frenc h-British supersonic transports stand 100 yards from each other at the Paris Air Show opening today, giving viewers a chance for the first time to make comparisons. The TU144 and the French-British Concorde look strikingly similar at first glance but actually they are different in practically every detail. More titanium has been used in the TU144's structure.

It weighs 130 metric tons loaded, compared to 175 for the Concorde. THE PASSENGER load is similar, although final seating arrangements probably have not been made for either. The Russians say they could put between 120 and 150 passengers in the needle-slim fuselage, compared with 128 to 144 in the Concorde and about 300 in the now abandoned American SST. The TU144 Is to fly slightly faster than the Concorde, Mach 2.3, compared with Mach 2.2, according to Downtown St. Petersburg Store Open 9:30 a.m.

fresh carefree summer fashions! presently available information. The 144 also has a higher ceiling, about 54,000 fect, compared with about 50,000. The TU144's range is also stated as slightly longer, 4,000 miles, compared with 3,600 for the Concorde, but there is no way of knowing what safety margin factors are involved. In general allure, the TU144 is easier on the eye. Beginning from the nose, it is slicker.

Its droop snoot is fitted sleekly into the fuselage and so is the pilot's windshield, which con- tin lies the needle-like shape of the fuselage. BY CONTRAST the Concorde windshield sticks up, abruptly spoiling the needle-like shape. The Concorde's movable nose also has the ap- pearance of a funny false i face, like something the' witch would wear in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The bottom of the 144's fuse-1 lage is flat, with the wings growing out gradually. The Concorde gives the appear- ance of having wings stuck abruptly onto a cylindrical fuselage.

The shape of the wings appears very similar, although the TU144 shows no signs of dcicing equipment, as on the Concorde. There are fewer and wider spaced windows in the Soviet plane than in the Concorde. The 144's engines are mounted as near as possible to the center line, while the Concorde ears For Anything A Florist Does perk up your summer with PERMA-PRESr pique shifts Snap them up at this price and relax all summer in little shifts, easy or fitted, zipped up or buttoned down, all-cotton or blends, prints or solids, sizes 10-18. The extremely long air in Available in Sears Lingerie takes on the 144 seem to con firm rumors that they had to Department be extended forward so that dirt and pebles would not be kicked into the jet engines by the front landing gear. THE TUl44's front landing gear carries two large low- pressure soft gum tires whose cord is showing. One French technician said he had noticed that all Soviet airplanes were using these tires, probably because of a lack of clean con- crete runways in the Soviet Union. He said that low-pressure soft gum tires are commonly used for landing on dirt airfields. The Russians say that even though one or two layers of tire cord are showing, there are nearly 50 more layers be s-7 it neath.

The interior of the Concorde contains only four passenger seats at present, while the 144 is reported to be fitted with 100 or more passenger seats. THE TEST pilot of the Concorde, Andre Turcat, said that from his conversations with Russian technicians it appears that electronic equipment plays far less of a role in the 144 than in the Concorde. The Russians say they have received about 20 options for their plane in Soviet bloc countries. The builders of the Concorde report they have 74 options. The TU144 reportedly will go into service in 1972, although this could not be confirmed.

The Concorde is to enter service in 1974. The program, conceived by Eastern copilot Charles Dyer, would automatically set May 30, 1971, as the official hiring date for former POWs, regardless of when they actually went to work. This would provide retroactive benefits in terms of pay, promotion, pensions, and choice of flight assignments.
