(UPI) -Sophomore tailback Jimmy Poulos ran for two touchdowns yesterday as undefeated, 10th ranked Georgia rolled to an easy 38-7 Southeastern Conference decision over Mississippi. Poulos scored on bursts of two and one yards, but set up both touchdowns with a couple of long runs that put the ball within the shadow of the Ole Miss goal. (UPI) -Quarterback Pat Sullivan passed for three touchdowns and 238 yards yesterday as sixth-ranked Auburn had to battle from behind to subdue tougher-than-expected Southern Mississippi, 27-14. SULLIVAN, who completed 23 of 39 passes to enhance his chances of repeating as the NCAA total offense champion, threw a one-yard pass to Trob-by Robinette to tie the score at 14-all in the third period and then put the Tigers ahead in the same period with a 20-yard strike to Dick Schmalz. The Auburn senior iced the hard-earned victory in the final period with his one-yard touchdown pass to his favorite receiver, Terry Beasley. Auburn opened scoring when Terry Henley plunged in from a yard out with 7:05 to play in Watson was a defensive struggle on the wet artificial turf with neither team able to sustain a scoring drive.

EARLY IN the first period, after an exchange of punts, Tech drove to the Tennessee 31 where the Jackets gambled on a fourth down pass from MacShan to tight end Mike Oven. The pass was complete but a motion penalty nullified its 11-yard gain, and Tech was forced to punt. The Yellow Jackets tried fourth down plays twice during the game but failed to pick up necessary yardage each time. Tech again bogged down at the Vol 33 with about nine minutes to play in the first half. Cam Bonifay tried a 50-.

yard field goal that fell short and the first half ended with the Vols ahead 7-0. Feathers now an assistant coach at Wake Forest, was on hand to watch Watson break his rushing record. Cracking Vols To Victory Veasey. Cloyce Hinton kicked the extra point. THE REBELS got to the Georgia one near the end of the third period but was stopped on four consecutive downs.

On the game's initial series of plays, fullbak Ricky Lake was jarred loose from the ball by an Ole Miss tackle and the alert Jennings grabbed his teammate's fumble and raced 39 yards into the end zone four minutes into the game. Ray, who replaced starting quarterback Andy Johnson in the second quarter, hit on passes of 10 and 18 yards to move the ball to the 11 then scored on an option play. Poulos set up his first touchdown when he scampered 32 yards to the Ole Miss 26 then added a couple of more short gains before he went into the end zone from the two. (UPI) Fullback Curt Watson scored on a 19-yard run in the opening minute of play yesterday to start the Tennessee Vols off to a 10 victory over Georgia Tech and before the game was over he had broken a school career rushing record that had stood for 28 years. Watson gained 76 yards for the aftrnoon to lead the vols attack but, in the end, it was the conversion and a 20-yard fourth-period field goal by George. Hunt that made the diference as Tech, a 10-point underdog, battled right up to the end. The Citadel Slips Past VMI, 25-24 LEXINGTON, Va. UP) The Citadel drove 77 yards for a touchdown with 3:14 left, then made good a two-point conversion to salvage a 25-24 Southern Conference football victory over Virginia Military Institute yesterday.

Fullback Bob Carson got the touchdown his second of the afternoon on a 27-yard bff-tackle burst, then hauled in quarterback Harry Lunch's pass for the decisive two points. WATSON, A senior fullback, now has a career total of 1,914 yards, 26 more than the previous record Beattie Feathers set in 1931-33. But Watson's performance was marred by three fumbles, two of which were recovered by the losers. Tech fullback Tim Macy fumbled the first handoff of the game, giving the Vols their chance at the Yellow Jacket 26. Watson carried twice for the score and Hunt added the extra point.

A partially blocked punt by Defensive back Gary Wingo set up Tech's lone touchdown on the Tennessee 19, with 1:20 left in the game. Three plays later tailback Greg Home ran in from the six but a running effort by quarterback Eddie MacShan for two extra points failed. Except for the first minute of play and the last six minutes of the game the contest IM the first period. But the lead was short-lived. Galiffa, who set out the first half with a sprained wrist, hit tight end Nate Stephens with a 64-yard touchdown pass with two minutes and 22 seconds left in the game to propel the Mountaineers ahead of the fired-up William Mary team that had led 21-7 at the start of the fourth quarter. Fullback Pete Wood slammed in for West Virginia touchdowns of four and six yards and speedster Kerry Marbury scored another on a two-yard run. Frank Nester kicked two extra points for West Virginia and Galiffa hit Wood with a pass for a two-point scoring play after one touchdown.
