Average Oakland City College transfer students are doing better in their first semester at the University of California than the average for all junior colleges. Board of Education members were given a report at yesterday's meeting based on records from the Office of Relations with Schools at U.C. The report said the grade point average earned by junior college transfers to the Berkeley campus during the first semester ranged from. 1.51 to 2.58. The average was 2.25 vith OCC transfers averaging 2.34.

Oakland College transfers also rated above average in maintaining their grades once they got in U.C, -the report stated. Of all junior college transfers, 30 per cent fell below a average at the University. Only ,18 per cent of the OCC students had a below average. During the four years OCC students have been in attendance at Cal, the figures have shown a steady improvement, Director Clem Long says. In line with the higher academic goals, the board approved stiffening graduation requirements to require six units in English for- all students instead of the three to six formerly needed.

Those not scoring high enough in a mathematics classification test will now have to take three units of mathematics instead of two. In another board action, approval was given for a class in conversational Russian at OCC in the spring semester. The two-credit course will be given at the' Merritt Campus on Monday and Wednesday nights from 7 to 9. A poll indicates more than 60 students want to take the conversational course and two classes may "be scheduled. Instructors will be Robert Pann and Thelwall Proctor, who are both working for advanced degrees at U.C.

21 (UPD Ingrid Bergman and her former husband, Robarto Rossellini, met in1- a bitter, joyless reunion today. Their meeting came in a Paris court where the judge delayed decision on a custody battle for their three children. The court said a decision would be handed down Saturday on Miss Bergman's application for custody. Court sources said Rosellini had accepted the competence of the French court to rule on the They also said there "had been "a great effort for reconciliation" on the part of both Miss Bergman and Rossellini behind the closed doors of the judge's chambers. Before the couple filed into the judge's rooms, they met in a wordless, cold reunion in an ante-chamber.

Rossellini kept his back to the woman he once loved when she first entered the room. Then, after a minute, the dark, balding Italian film director turned around. Not a flicker of recognition crossed his grim face. Miss Bergman, a trapped look on her face, stared back at him as though he were a stranger. Then Rossellini -spun about and walked quickly into the judge's chambers.
