AROUND FLORIDA ADVERTISEMENT 1111111 1 mm 3B THE TAMPA TRIBUNE, Wednesday, May 27, 1970 ITaste Tipsl Dining Room Notes From Tampa Bay's Top Restaurants Busch Gardens To Detail Major Expansion Program Restaurant iMght Ctub-Attraction ft. c3ir AUGUST BUSCH JR. big plans ahead for Gardens as Disney World approaches its opening Busch Gardens, Florida's No. 1 tourist attraction, is going to expand once again not coincidentally with the expected arrival of more millions of visitors next year for the opening of Walt Disney World near Kis-simmee. Just what shape developments will take at the Tampa gardsn-animal-brewery complex will be spelled out by August A.

Busch president and chairman of Anheuser-Busch at a luncheon here June 5. Busch recently toured the Disney project and is known to be planning to keep his Tampa attraction in contention for tourist attention in the years ahead. THE LUNCHEON occasion will also feature a special preview of Busch's new "Boma," a $1 million addition opening to the public July 1. Boma, a Swahili word meaning "small animal enclosure," occupies a 2Vz acre site at Busch Gardens, between the Monorail station and the brewing plant. The new complex is a lush, planted forest where young animals indigenous to Africa and other parts of the world may be viewed at close range from footpaths.

Focal point will be a nocturnal exhibit where the animal's life cycle will be reversed through special lighting, showing visitors how these species live at night. Animals to be displayed there include vampire bats, hedge hogs, bush babies, kangaroo rats, three hyrax, aardvarks, aardwolves, fruit bats, mongooses and serval cats. THERE WILL ALSO bs a small-animal -contact area, walk-through bird displays, a nesting area, a seal and otter pool and nursery and kitchen. Richard J. Bender, vice president of corporate affairs, said this attraction will have significant educational value and "complements the animal survival program which has been in effect at the Gardens for several years." Some 2.5 million visitors come to the Tampa gardens annually.

Similar attractions have gone in at Busch's Los Angeles and Houston plants, in addition to Grant's Farm, Busch's home in St. Louis which is open to the public. Anheuser-Busch also has announced for a $40 million brewing plant, a Busch dens and aland development program at Wil- i liamsburg, Va. 1 MEETING ROOMS for parties, sales seminars and other functions are now available at the completely redesigned Holiday Inn West on North Dale Mabry, now home of both the new Bakery Restau-ran and the Casbah Lounge with more yet to come! STEVE'S RUSTIC LODGE, now celebrating its 12th anniversary, also recently rearranged its large dining space so as to be able to accommodate private parties both small and medium-size. PRIVATE SMORGASBORDS are available for groups who meet at Tampa's Sweden House which has a complete separate dining and meeting facility, and the perfect answer to please varied food tastes.

REMODELING ALSO has created a private dining room for small groups at the Pelican Restaurant on Clearwater Beach for the first time in this fine restaurant's long history. DOWNTOWN TAMPA organizations have four fine facilities available for meetings. The Redwood Room has a private dining area and already caters to some breakfast groups, while Pappas' River-boat can provide its entire below-decks dining room for parties. Of course, the Manger Motor Inn and the Sheraton-Tampa Motor Inn are both headquarters for a large number of organizations each week. WHILE REDECORATION has transformed the interior of the Tampa Airport Motor Inn in recent weeks with emphasis on its new Red Lion supper-club lounge the large, upstairs meeting facility is still popular with many Tampa organizations and firms.

What is DEAR CRACKER: The term means "soup of the day" and it's up to the chef as to what type of soup that will be. A good chef takes great pride in his soup-making and imaginative broths certainly are a great way to make any restaurant more distinctive. "Soups de jour'9 also offer a pleasant change of taste from the omnipresent French Onion. Some restaurants follow a set pattern by having a certain soup featured the same day each week (like Clam Chowder on Fridays, for example). Just ask your waitress.

Dial 884-6461 A 1 NEW REDWOOD ROOM Threat To Tropical Industry In Tampa A threat to Tampa's multimillion-dollar tropical fish import industry has ended, Congressman Sam Gibbons said yesterday. Gibbons said Tampa will continue as a port of entry for the fish, as it is at present, after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Commission granted Tampa an exception to a regulation which would have limited imports to six cities.

Tampa won't be listed as a port of entry but will be granted a permanent blanket exception will allow the $30 million tropical fish industry to continue to operate. THE CONGRESSMAN said the commission told him yesterday that a general exception for Tampa to operate as a port of entry for fish only has been signed by Secretary of Interior Walter Hickel and will be made public next week. The net effect of the announced decision is that the tropical fish can continue to be imported from the Orient through Tampa International Airport, as in the past, and need not be brought through any of the six designated ports. Why is that? DOUBLE ENTRY.

DEAR DOUBLE: First of all, the entrees on complete dinner menus are foods that cost less to buy and serve because they are more plentiful or because they may be prepared in bulk. While the complete dinners are designed to attract families and those accustomed to "a full meal," there are others who just want the entree and few or no side dishes. "You'll notice that in some restaurants the side dishes, such as appetizers, soups, salads, vegetables and desserts, are also listed separately. The price of some or all of these, plus your single entree, obviously would be more than the complete dinner. Eppy" will be happy to answer YOUR questions about dining out, too.
