At the southern end of the Meadowlands is the town of North Arlington. There, head to Joe's Bake Shop, 601 Ridge Road. Joe's, though said to be in the nearby town of Nutley (home town of decidedly un-Soprano Martha Stewart, by the way), was the site of a signal scene of the show, where violent mobster Chris Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli) lops off the toe of a clerk. The next town south of North Arlington is Kearny, home of Sa-triale's Pork Shop, another Soprano mobsters hangout.

It was there, for instance, that Tony met with a Hasidic businessman who hated his son-in-law and went to Tony to put some kosher muscle on him. More recently, Satriale's was where Tony's allies made hamburger of Richie Aprile (David Proval). The exterior of Satriale's doesn't mask another pork shop, though. It is strictly an empty double storefront at 101 Kearny Ave. Now, strike out to the west on N.J.

Route 506 toward fair Verona, and the very undignified household of Livia Soprano (Nancy Marchand) on Gould Street near Bloomfield Avenue. A house on Gould served as the stage where Aloysious Roman Catholic Church in North Caldwell. In the show's first season, Tony took his daughter, Meadow (Jamie Lynn Sigler), on one of those typical middle-class college interview tours. They were supposed to be in Maine, but they were actually just a few miles south of the Caldwells in Madison, on the campus of Drew University, whose president is the clearly un-mob-type former New Jersey Gov. Thomas Kean.

Kean, of course, is famous for his commercials, "New Jersey and You, Perfect Together," which could well be the motto for the Soprano family. All in all, the show has been shot in 22 New Jersey towns, said an HBO spokeswoman, and each crew member received a rock-tour-like T-shirt to commemorate the first season's locations I Bloomfield; Sept. 2 Lincoln Park," and so on). At this point in your tour, you can take a run down the Garden State Parkway to Asbury Park, where the decrepit Boardwalk serves as a backdrop on the show on occasion. Or you can head down the turnpike, stopping off at Rutgers University at Exit 9.

New Brunswick hasn't quite made it yet on screen in "The Sopranos," but that's where James Gandolfini started working on his acting chops, at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts. star-crossed lovers Richie "Romeo" Aprile and Janice "Juliet" Soprano played out their Shakespearean tragedy this season. Shove on west along I-280 now to the nice, bucolic town of West Orange. One of the more bucolic places is the Green Hill Retirement Home, 103 Pleasant Valley Way. In "The Sopranos," that is where Tony made reluctant pilgrimages to see Livia, his not-so-loving mom, while she was recovering from a stroke at the Green Grove Retirement Home.

On farther west toward New Jersey horse country now, to Livingston. There, the show uses a mansion whose residents ask HBO to keep the location secret -as the upscale home of "The Sopranos'" favorite hip-hop star. Massive Genius. Contrast that with the more middle-class streets of the Cald-wells, just to the north. When Tony comes home to Carmela (Edie Falco), he is doing so to a real home in the upper-middle-class section of North Caldwell, not far from the home in West Caldwell of the only New Jersey-born US.

president, Grover Cleveland, a man of Soprano-like girth. HBO has also asked that the exact address of the "Soprano home" be kept secret at the request of its owners. But the whole thing is a homage to "Sopranos" creator David Chase, who grew up in West Caldwell and was married in 1968 at St. 'Doable Fane Insulated Glass Tilt in to Clean uteri me toward nree 7 'Screen Induded lr- Install from $49 To MUM.
