Michael Bergps, owner of Club New York, said his lawsuit filed Wednesday that the bad publicity after the 1999 shooting caused attendance to drop and corporate clients to cancel events.

"I'm just disgusted, basically," Bergos said. "There were damages to the club, but the main thing is my name." The club shooting happened after a man insulted Combs and threw money in his face. Combs protege Jamal "Shyne" Barrow allegedly pulled a gun and opened fire, hitting three people. Barrow, 21, has been indicted on an attempted murder charge. Combs fled with girlfriend Jennifer Lopez, a bodyguard and a driver.

Combs' lawyer, Benjamin Braf-mart, said: "It never ceases to amaze me how many people are seeking to financially capitalize on Mr. Combs' wealth and celebrity status, despite knowing beyond question that he had nothing whatsoever to do with the shooting in Club New York." WHEN CHUCK WILLIAMS was hired, he was hired from out of town and everyone praised what he did. I think for the same reason they ought to get someone from outside again. They need to get someone that everybody can respect even if it takes a year to get it. I WORK FOR the police department and I would ask anyone to check our response times. I would say we respond to almost all calls within three to five minutes.

If the woman's house was broken into and it had already occured, then we might have had other emergencies. I doubt very seriously it took three-and-one half hours. If there is a problem, let's get the tapes, listen to the times and see what the problem is. I WAS UP late last night drinking eggnog when I heard a knock at my back door. There he was, sure enough, a 20-foot snake with chicken feet.

He asked me, "Do humans taste like chicken?" I screamed, went to the bedroom and pulled the covers over my head. I think I'll lay off the eggnog for a while. AFTER LISTENING to Gov. Bush's ideas of being president, it reminds me that the people who will vote for Bush are those who don't remember Ronald Reagan and the rich. THE CITY IS calling for a $4.5 million bond issue to improve the water plant.

About eight or 10 years ago they increased the water bills, saying they were going to take that money and build a new water and sewer plants. Apparently, that money has been used for other purposes. I CAN'T BELIEVE anyone who loves the great state of Texas would consider voting for Al Gore, who made it pretty clear how much he hates our great state. I JUST DON'T understand Vice President Al Gore. He wants a photo idea for firearms when there is a form already in effect where you have to answer about 15 questions, punishable for any misstatements.

I've read they've never prosecuted for any misstatements on the form. Mr. Gore' just really doesn't know where he is coming from. He has never explained the purpose of a photo ID. If they don't do anything with the existing form, what good is a photo ID going to be? TO THE PERSON who said they don't like politicians, politicians are all right if they are cooked right, but have you ever tried to clean one of them? Editor's note: We'd imagine you'd need some good gloves.

BUSH'S FAVORITE town in Texas is Kilgore. THE DEMOCRATS are messing with Texas in their attack on the Republican candidate. They are alleging we are denying poor children health care, that our cities are so filled with smog that our children can't play outdoors. They've also implied that we are white supreme-cists, that we pack guns and drag black Americans behind cars. We need to swamp the Democrats with rebuttals on this and remind them that we do pack guns, but we also pack a mighty whallop at the polls. I ASKED MY mom last night if she watched the debate and she said, "As you know, I didn't listen to you kids argue, why would I listen to someone else's?" WE SHOULD VOTE for Gov.
