Broadus had been in the ice cream business in downtown Marshall for several years before obtaining the Otter Pop contract in 1982. His first line outside dairy products was the "Popsie" freeze-pop, for which he was a licensee from 1978 to 1982. Pyle joined Broadus in 1982 and the pair opened the present plant on Harris Lake Road that same year. its height in the summer when a second shift is added for May through August. Merrytime Products holds contracts with the National Pax Corp. of Arcadia, to produce the fruit coolers and pops under the Otter Pop trademark.
