The Marshall actress, reported to be in Corpus Christi for a gala premiere there, made a surprise appearance at the local Cinema, much to the delight of family and fans alike. It turned out that the female star of the show did her duty in Corpus and then wailed, "I want to go home!" In short order, the actress and Calvin Chrane, her husband and personal manager, were on a chartered plane winging its way to Shreveport. It was another instance of the Marshall native showing enduring affection for her hometown and "the ties that bind." With the help of Jimmy Duncan, owner of Cinema I and II, and Wanda Cave, manager, the impromptu visit was arranged as a surprise for the star's parents, the C. C.

The two were quickly engulfed in a rush of relatives that included Susan's daughter, Lynn Howerton; her father, brother James Mooney; grandmothers Ruth Bell and Winnie Mooney, and a host of other relatives'. When the presence of the show's female star registered with the surprised patrons, many clustered around, thrusting slips of paper and booklets for her to autograph.

Unpretentious and casually dressed in blue and white striped pants and blouse topped with a white blazer, actress Susan Howard became Jeri Lynn Mooney, hometown girl who made the bigtime. The two-hour NBC Movie of the Week is due for airing in September.

"It's an all-star cast," she related, noting that Patty Duke plays her sister and George Hamilton is her boyfriend in the TV movie. Miss Howard is even more excited about a new venture in her future. "Cal and I are going to produce our own films. People are going into their own thing now. If Burt Reynolds can do it, I can," affirmed Susan with the determination that has marked her rise In the world of drama.

"I'll produce and she'll be the star," Chrane added matter-of-factly. The two also revealed definite plans to make Marshall their permanent home. The land has been purchased and an Austin architectural firm has drawn up plans for an imposing walled mansion and guest house complex. "We'll start with the Susan ex-. in August to get things going on that!" And whatever Susan Howard wants, she seems to be getting these days.
