Denson, whose previous best was 162 yards against Michigan in the season opener, ripped off runs of 37, 32 and 24 yards as Notre Dame (6-1) ran for 329 yards, its highest total in two seasons. HSU (7-1, 5-0American Southwest) scored on all five of its first-quarter drives, putting up 31 points in the first quarter and 52 points by halftime. Texas Lutheran (3-5, 1-4) got its only points on Robbie Bozeman's 27-yard pass to John Corbin in the fourth quarter. Poe completed only 8-of-14 passes! but they went for 244 yards, including touchdowns of 45 yards to Barry Donham, 69 yards to Jackie Warren and 86 yards to Kirk Rogers.

Miles' 42-yard TD run midway through the fourth quarter broke open what was a two-point game at the time. Midwestern State (2-7, 1-6) hampered its cause with five turnovers three fumbles and two interceptions. Kareem Larrimore returned one of the interceptions 67 yards for a touchdown.
