CLASSIFIED DIRECT LINE: 740-2527 Email: 002 Obituaries HERRON Gordon Lyle On November 22, 2007, Gordon passed away in the Nanaimo hospital surrounded by his family. He showed great strength and resilience during the past three years as he struggled with cancer. His courage through this time will remain as an inspiration to his family and friends. Gordon was born near the town of Saltcoats, Saskatchewan on February 05, 1938.

He grew up on the family farm and attended school in the Castleton and Tupper districts. As a young adult he embarked on a career as an electrician, which he continued to enjoy for nearly 50 years. In 1981 he formed Gordie's Electric in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. After running his business for several years he and Linda moved to Vancouver Island in 1989 to plan for retirement. However, as Gordon always enjoyed his work and the many friends that he made on the job, he went in and out of retirement for many years.

Gordon leaves many cherished memories for his wife Linda; daughter Rhonda (Shawn) Bymoen; son Kelly Herron; granddaughters: Caylin and Alysa who were the joys of his life; sister Edith Taylor; brother Orville (Marilyn) Herron; mother-in-law Elva Murray; brother-inlaw George (Laurie) Murray; sisters-in-law: Beth Murray and Heather (John) Dwyer; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives. Gordon was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be remembered for his commitment to family, quick wit, sense of humour, strong work ethic, love of sports and as a good neighbour and friend. It was always important to Gordon to maintain contact with long time friends and to watch over the young people in the neighbourhood. His incredible memory for dates, people and events made him the official family historian who resolved many a debate.

He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. As Gordon had requested, there will be no service but a Celebration of His Life will be held next summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation or the Nanaimo Community Hospice Society. Men are of two kinds, and he was of the kind I'd like to be. Some preach their virtues, and a few express their lives by what they do.

That sort was he. No flow'ry phrase or glibly spoken words of praise won friends for him. He wasn't cheap or shallow, but his course ran deep, and it was pure. You know the kind. Not many in a life you find whose deeds outrun their words so far that more than what they seem they are.
