11 06 I. a Capt. J. G. Gssb, formerly of the 48th Ohio, author of a work on prison life in the South, and a gentleman well known in this county, has been appointed Colonel of the 184th regiment O.

V. now in process of organization. Mrs. Eastman desires us to no tify persons haying friends in the 96th regiment, that she will leave for the mouth of White river, where the regiment is now stationed, next Tuesday. Those wishing to send letters or small packages, should leave them at Starr's Drug Store by Monday evening.

A. letter has recently been received from Bishop Thomson, dated City of Agra, India, November 4tb, the thermometer at tbe Doctor's pen being 82 degrees, and going np. Tbe letter is devoted to a description of Ceylon, tbe comparartive merits of Brahminism and Buddhism, and some account of tbe earliest missions in India. "Notis in Dixie." Number 25 of these interesting papers, which will be found on the first page, is dated in South Carolina. The gallant and patriotic writer has been through some of the hardest fought battles in northern Virginia and Maryland, fell seriously wounded while fighting in the front ranks at the sanguinary battle of Gettysburg, aided in the taking of Lookout Mountain under Hooker, participated in the numerous engagements which ensued resulting in the capture of Atlanta, was with Sherman during his triumphant march through Georgia to the coast, and is now with him in his campaign into the interior of South Carolina.

We hope he may have the pleasure of being present at the winding up of the rebellion, which it is not improbable may occur about the time the present campaign closes and near where it was inaugurated. Death op Hon. Emery Moore. Our community was startled Monday afternoon by the announcement of the death of Emery Moore, Esq. We met him on the side-walk at one o'clock p.

when he was apparently in his usual health, and about two hours later heard he had just been brought home a corpse. HeVas employed at the time of his death in appraising land in the western suburbs of town, complained of a severe pain in the region of the heart, but rallied and prooeeded in the dircharge of the work in which he was engaged. Soon after he was prostrated by a renewal of the attack, and died almost instantly, without uttering a word. The deceased was one of our oldest citizens was for a number of years Sheriff of the county in 1840-41 was a member of the lower branch of the Ohio Legislature and at the time of his death was an Assistant U. S.

Assessor. He was noted for his social qualities his amiability of character and obliging disposition being proverbial. He buried the wife of his youth and companion of his manhood a few weeks since, and has now followed her to "that silent bourn whence no traveler returns.1' He will be seriously missed by all who knew him, and there are none among us more generally known than he was. He had nearly attained his sixty-seventh year, and died of heart disease. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, our citizens turned cut Wednesday afternoon in large numbers to attend his funeral obsequies.

Large Sale op Real Estate. A considerable amount of real estate belonging to the Estate of Hon. Charles Sweetser, lately deceased, was disposed of at publio sale on Wednesday, a large number of persons being in attendance many of whom were bidders. The following comprises a list of that portion of the property located in this county: Old frame house on Sandusky street, next south of residence of the late Judge Fuller (sold subject to widow's dower,) $240 M. D.

Pettibone purchaser. Two lota 50 feet front, north of Dr. Dunn's, Sandusky street, $1167 F. Emmons purchaser. Lot on Henry street, $112 I.

J. Richardson purchaser, 34 acres i mile north of town, $1860 F. Zeigler purchaser. Lot and small house on Franklin street, $534 Adam Worline purchaser. Part of out-lot on south side of Bom-ford street, $290 A.

Gould purchaser. In-lot 167 in Middletown, $100 S. Gast purchaser. Lots 33 and 34 in Middletown, $40 Dr. W.

E. Dunn purchaser. 54 on Bomford street (subject to widow's dower,) $275 M. D. Pettibone purchaser.

Out-lot 53, containing 3 acres 136 i perches, on north side of Bomford street east of Sandusky, $750 Alood Smith purchaser. 9 In-lots on North Sandusky street, $900 B. Powers purchaser. 9 Lota on west side Union street, North Delaware, $1044 W. E.

Dunn purchaser. 9 Lots on east side of Union street, $901 same purchaser. Two lots on east side of Sandusky street, between Col. J. M.Crawford and D.

Plot-ner, $524 Henry W. Chamberlain pur-ehaier. The Concert given at Miller's Hall Tues day evening, for the benefit of St. Peter Church, was a decided success. A large and appreciative audience was in attend ance, and the greatest possible satisfaction was given, which was evinced by raptur ous and long-continued applause at the close of the pieces performed, several of which were encored.

The performers comprised the following ladies and gentle men: Mrs. C.G.Davison, M. D. Pettibone, G.W. Little and J.

F. Culbertson-Misses Alice Williams, Mary Rhodes and Hattie Walker Messrs. J. W. Donivan, R.

Michell and J. C. Brecht. All acquitted themselves with great eredit. Mrs.

son fully sustained the high reputation she enjoys as an accomplished vocalist while Mrs. Pettibone, Miss Williams, and Messrs. Brecht and Donivan, who had leading parts assigned them in the programme, more than met the expectations of their friends. Miss Rhodes and Mr, Michell, who furnished a considerable part of the instrumental music, also gave great satisfaction by the skill with which they performed their parts. Mr.

Doni van acted tne part oi leader or tne cnoir and master of ceremonies, and in saying he discharged his duties in a most admi rable and satisfactory manner, we but re iterate the sentiment of the entire audience. We trust he will ere long be able to favor our citizens with another per formance by his accomplished troupe. Fair progress is being made toward re lieving our township from the draft. We learn about forty men have been recruited, but as they have not yet passed a medical examination, it is altogether probable a portion of them will be rejected. The committee is still continuing its efforts, and there is every reason to believe they will be crowned with entire success.

The quotas of the several townships of the county are small, and with the inducements held out to volunteers, it seems as though the men required from each could with proper effort be raised within their own limits, without looking abroad for recruits. It should be borne in min that the men must be forthcoming either by volunteering or drafting, and it behooves each one interested to consider in which capacity he would prefer to serve. We take it for granted that no one con templates anything else than to respond personally or by substitute if drafted. Running off to avoid the liability is the poorest speculation a man ever engaged in, as the shivering and half starved ref ugees that swarm Canada can testify. The stigma as well as the crime of de sertion adheres to them, and time will not wipe out the one or release from lia bility to the penalty which attaches to the other.

Recruits Wanted Last Call. Per sons liable to draft will do well to bear in mind the fact that Tuesday next is the last day tney can volunteer and secure the large bounty and other advantages that follow. After that comes the draft, without bounty or choice of company or regiment. Be wise, and act promptly. The very largest bounties offered by any locality, will be paid for acceptable men Township committees wishing quotas filled will do well to give us a call.

O. H. Barker, R. C. Breyfogle, Lieuts.

Recruiting Officers. There will be an Oyster Supper at the Kingston Presbyterian Church, on Tues day, 14th for the benefit of the Kingston Soldiers' Aid Society. Rev James Wheeler and others are expect ed to be present to lecture. Brown's Bronchial Trochks are widely known as an established remedy for Coughs, Colds, Bronchitis, Hoarseness, and other troubles of the Throat and Lungs. Their good reputation and extensive use has brought out and similar preparations represented to be tbe same, which are generally injurious.

At tbe close of the first week of January one dollar in gold wonld buy, in Richmond, sixty dollars of Confederate currency. It is stated that one dollar in gold will now buy three thousand six hundred dollars of that currency.

So tbe currency may be set down as of no value at all. It isn't worth the space it wonld fill in an overcoat pocket or traveling trunk. Fifty dollars of it isn't worth stooping to pick np in the street. Still. "Marcaino On." It is stated that a photograph of Old John Brown, wreathed in laurel, is now hanging in tbe parlor of the mansion formerly belonging to Henry A.
