THE LUSTY HORN. A. Short Brisk Dash with the Hounds Yesterday. ABOUT TWENTY INI THE FIELD. Very Few Croppers and None of Them of Serious Consequence.

The run of tbe Queens county yeBlerday not very difficult, over a picturesque country tad at a very good rate or speed. The tleld was quiie large, over a score being out on horseback, lucludiug Uo ladles, and a large number on the roads In carriages. Tbe weather at tho slurl was excellent, though the morning bad beon quite bleak aud frosty, promise of rain, which, fortunately, did not come. The meet was at Garden City at one o'clock, me lateness of the hour afforded visitors Irom New York amplo tlmo to don thoir riding suits and partake of lunch leisurely alter tne arrival of tho special train, which leaves Hunter's l'oint at ten o'clock. A.

M. In tho horse box attached to this train yosterday were Uvo horses down to the bunt. Home of tbeso wore for the ladies who rode and the groom attending them, another was a horse hired for the chase. When theae arrived at tho stables at Uarden City It was found that others had come Irom other points, and so It became apparent that there would bo a pretty good Held. Among the other strange borBes already on band wero a bay horBe called Scsmp, the gray mare Moor-' hen, end a big blocky horse, said to bo recently lm- ported by his ownor, an English iarmer.

As the nour spnotnted for the moot approached, tbeso and the Atbers wore saddled and led out preparatory to being mouuted. It was noticed then thai the following gantlomou wore also in the Robert Con ler, Mr. E. Zborowskl (In pink), Mr. E.

L. Ludlow, Mr. Emmet, Mrs. Francklvn, Miss Oelricbs, Mr. Clarence Levy and bit man, Mr.

George Tlcphurst, Mr. Hcwlott, Mr. Townsend Percy and live or six country bojTB. Mr. Gray Griswold'and the Whip rode up to the hotel with ibe bounds at one o'olock.

Awuiting their approach quite a bevy ol ladles gatbored on tho piazza and scanned with ovidont intorost the last collecting field or horsemen In irout of the botol. Thoso latior objects of attention moved to and iro to koop thoir i animals from catching cold by standing unooverod In the oool breezes. OFF TO COVStt. Tbe delay was brier alter tha arrival of tho hounds. The courso toward cover was to the south, aud so tho prooosslon started, headed by the Master of tho Hounds, tho rear brought up by a string ol carriages.

In this way we proceeded lo a strip of wood, about a mile south of Garden City iiolol. Hero, alter a brlei ball, the hounds throw off. -Wnllo tbe pack passed Into the wood most of tho llolrt swarmed along the eastern edge of the wood. Tbe hounds soon after commenced 10 give touguo on the wostern side and dashed about excitedly as II going to break away toward tho northoast This roovomont tho short blasts of the huntsman's horn anu the accompanying music Of the pack drew several horsemen through tho brakes, and by tho tlmo tbe hounds, led by Old Comforter, were fairly off tho field was all close at band, though several were on a road north of tho cover from which tho pack broke. Hair a dozen horsemen look tho flrst fcuccs handsomely, tbe English farmer's nag Jumplug exoell.

utly, as If flying ins native Luloriubatoly lor the iarmer, however, ho mistook tho whipper-in ibe "'untsman," and as Fitzpairick did not tollow strsigbt yesterday tho stranger got thrown out early in ibe ruu. Very soon alter Mr. Ludlow got thrown out also, but in a (flfforoul way. Ho essuyed a four-rail lence, nut could not nouotialc it, and his nag, a roaror, wont to grass on the lurther side. Not more than Uvo or six went straight alter this last crooner and among those wore Mr.

Unsworn, Mr. Zborowskl anu Mr. Center. Tho Jumps were not very trying alter tbe mile or so, anu, indeed, only two or mreo roally stiff high lencos were encountered during tho entire run. At one of tbeso Mr Grlswold bad a oropper, but be was soon up anu forward again.

Mr. Center dropped out soon alter, and towatd tho close only two or three were up with tho houod-i. Alter a run of loss than lour miles? north at Brst and west pack turned toward tho south ana crossed the Hempstead lurnplko road, not very lar from Foster's Meadows. They then ran eastward, turned again into tbe roau. then ran niong ibrough a wood aud so toward the southeast, llmsbiug in another wood, about a quarter ol a nule turiner on.

This doubling ol the chase brought up some or those who lagged behind, so that tbero was quite a respectable attendance at tbe tinisb, the ladios being among the number. It is amusing to listen to the bluster of some of tbe strncRlers who gallop up at tho with a great flourish alter having done ail the chopping possible and uretend to have gone straight and jumped all the fences. How they bo.st ol this lump and tbail How high their horses went! How admirably they cleared that nve-rail foncel Oh 'twas But thon, some blight allowance must be ttiudo lor tho exaggeration duo to the excitement ol the moiuout; and it Is some satisfacilon to bo In well atthe Uuibh, even If ono does have to out otr 1 J'l'he 'Eufc'l'lshman on the blocky horso to be very sorry to have gone wrontf. Had be ridden straight ho would have done well, no doubt, speaklug ol bis horso, he 'ome the tolks that 'uniod on my pli'ace wauteu un lor tho 'untsman, but they sent to Oireland and bought un thoer lor two buuder pun'." This muy h.ivo been a sly Insinuation that his nag was worth so much that they could not uQord to purchase it. A This run was all over In less than forty minutes, Its leiiulh being perhaps a littio short ol six miles.

It was wuolly a drag hunt, aud tlie couutry over which tho chase loo mostly a urass country, though Were were here and there some stubbie tlelds nod lew ploughed patches ihut were rather trying to Wo horses. Altogether it was a short unil uoi very eveutjul dash, but a very spirited ono while it lasted. It was a good day lor chopping, too, uud many who louud themselves thrown out ourly in ibe ruu caught up again aiicr taking to the roads lor a while. Tbe next meet will he at Kast Meadow Brook, at one o'clock 1'. next Saturday.

Tho one following will bo tho meet, at Garden City. Tho hunt ball for ibe larmers 01 tho vicinity, over whose ground the huntsmen navo occasionally ridoon, will lake place on liuukstiiviug Eve. It is uouuunceu lb it the invitations are now being preparod and will be issued in a lew days iiOliSE NOTLfcS.
