She was a homemaker and a bilingual teacher's assistant at Countryside High School, Clearwater. She was Muslim. She was a member 'of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, Largo, and the American and the Florida Nurses Associations. He worked for the Hillsborough County School System for 29 years as a teacher, coach and administrator at Memorial and Middle-ton Junior High schools, and he was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He retired as safety manager after 24 years with National Distillers and Chemical New York City, and he taught at Vanlue High School, Vanlue, Ohio. He graduated from Findlay College, Find-lay, Ohio. He was an Army veteran of World War II with the rank of captain and served in the Burma-India-China Theater. He was a member of Bay Pines Evangelical Lutheran Church, Seminole, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ashtabula.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Susan Ka-threns, and a son, Michael both of Findlay; a brother, Raymond Jarvi, Vera Beach; three grandchildren; and five great-grandsons. Louis. He worked 42 years for General Motors in both Mich igan and Ohio and retired as assistant comptroller of GM and treasurer of Terex Corp.
