Partin, Roy Whited, Wm. Whited and Vane Rogers came down from Willits to take in the field day exercises. G. M. Miller, one ofBoonville's poijular voung men, came over last Saturday to take in the field day exercises.

Mart Baechtel and wife came down from Wiilits the first of the week to spend the spring and summer at their home in Ukiah. Dave Dollar is rusticating at Orr's Springs for a few weeks. Patrick Cunningham came up from Santa Rosa Sunday to attend tlie funeral of his uncle, Michael Cunningham. Wattenburger and Hurt returned from San Francisco day where they had been calleil as witnesses in the case of the People vs. Grasscr and Perrj' who were charged with selling liquor to the Indians. The jury released Grasscr and the case against Perry was dismissed.

It looks like there was intelligence enough in the valley to be worthy of a better mail facility, where dailv papers go at least. Mr. Chas. Keorner, of Ten Mile Mouse, will act as postmaster. One of the heaviest hail storms of the season laid the ground white with hail stones as large as marbles.

The Sherwood creamery operated on the Earnsworth ranch by Beattie Farnsworth is handling 2500 lbs. of milk daily. W. H. Clay, aged 78 years, is as lively as a kitten.

Bears the Siguatnie of Death of Michael Cunningham Michael Cunningham, brother of the late Patrick Cunningham, died at the Cunningham home east of town last Saturday evening, at the age of 70 years and two months. Mr. Cunningham was a resident of San Francisco until about a month ago when he removed to this city for medical treatment.

He left property to the value of about $15,000, of which $5,000 will go to the Cunningham heirs of this New Lecture Course. Rev. J. Waggoner has arranged for another course of popular lec- ttires. Next Friday evening Mr.

Garver will lecture at the Christian church on "Great Books." Mr. Sehoonmaker will also deliver another lecture in the near future on China. These lecturers are the most noted in the United States and all should avail themselves of the op- portunitj' to hear them. Improvement Club, A growing interest is manifested in each successive meeting of the Improvement Club, but there are j-et of Ukiah's representative women whose names are needed in support of this work.

Every woman is requested in the name of the club to pour her enthusiasm and influence into its support. While the young people can be interest i find made to understand the purport of the club thru the public schools, their real incentive for lasting good of their helpful efforts must be the approbation of the home. A few barrel receptacles have been placed in convenient corners. These the public are i-ecjuested to use for refuse instead of the street. Though Ukiah has probably little room for complaint from careless causes, it can still be better.

Hutchinson, of Fort Bragg, was elected Moderator and presided thi jout the Rev. Gillis was installed as regular pastor of the Ukiah church during the session. Dr. Martin, of Santa Rosa, preaching the installation sermon. Prof Day of the San Seminary delivered the charge to Rev.

Gi'ilis wiiile Rev. James Mitchell, of Benicia, delivered the charge to the congregfitioti. The exercises were highly edifying and were very nuich enjoyed by all. S. track team has had a season of success. Starting off with the defeat of the Stanford juniors by over two to one the team finishes its work in the S. M. A.

A. L. field day last Satottlay In' gaining more points than the three Santa Rosa, Petaluma and The final result of this meet was, Healdsburg 11, Santa Rosa 26, Petaluma 28 and Ukiah 79. Ukiah's team work was excellent. With a basis of nine first places, seven second places and three third places were added to fill out and then came the relay race with a gift of ten more points.

This is the first relay race Ukiah has ever won or even made a good showing. But with the team made up and running in this order: Finnic, Weller, Thomas, Holman, Henley and Thomson, Ukiah had "yai-ds to burn." The result was as follows: 100 yd. by Healey, Legro, S. second; Costello, third. Time 10 3-5 sec.

The societj' has eured for themselves a hall in which they intend storing their goods, such as books and to hold forth from now on. The growth of the club is such that at present nearly 20 members Hock around its staiid- ard. Last Friday night the first night in its new apartments and as a consequence the elul) intends turning over a new leaf with new A general election was held and next Friday night the newly chosen leaders come into power. Being as the club in its working demand the greatest secrecy, prudence would not dictate a complete disclosure of the inner chamber guardians. New paper officers were elected and the Uki Ah Hi threatens in the near futiu-e to have a revival and to take on new sliape and greater space.

A greater chance now shows itself to those who are literary inclined and are not able to rpicnch their inspired emotions in short and compact stories, for serials as well as long stories will be highly acceptable and draw the greatest attention. The same principle of having thi-ee editors in chief, who serve for a term of months, is kept up and the new arc Sturtevant, Holman and Dutton; Guy Redwine is the new business manager. 01 in Nuckolls, Lowe, George and Anderson Thomas are on the associate editor list. With the present outlook a great improvement is cd in the paper and the, Comitia will live altho many of its meml)crs arc seniors. The Recreation Club postponed its regular meeting until Saturday night in order that they might entertain the visitors.

F. Ornbaun as game warden accepted. Petition for public wagon road in Arena road district near Riverside crossing of Garcia, laid over. Application of Mr.s. M.

A. Barnett for rebate of taxes, rejected. Petition for formation of Moodj' school district, rejected. Petition for changing boundar3' lines of North Fork and Hasicon school districts, granted. Petition for changing boundar3' lines of Long vallej' and Black Rock school districts granted.

Petition for formation of Stella school district rejected. Petition for changing boundaries of Yorkville and Ornbaun school districts and Bear Harbor and Needle Rock, granted. Petition for the fonnation of a new school district out of the tei-ri- torjv of Buck Mt. and Spy Rock districts to be known as Ackerh' granted. On motion it is hereby ordered that the apportion to the general road fund 35 per cent of all road moneys as provided hy Sec.

Change in voting precinct is ordered that the following changes be made in the Hollow- Tree and Blue Rock voting precincts: All of T. 23 R. 17, lying southerly and westerly of the South Fork of Eel river shall be included in Hollow Tree precinct and Blue Rock precinct is changed so as to include all of T. 23 R.
