Kenneth Roy Putnam, 6 weeks old, survived the rare surgery but died later. In the operation, which may have been the first of its kind, a simple pump was used, rather than another human, to keep the blood flowing while surgeons worked on the heart. Four pints of blood were taken from donors, charged with oxygen and circulated successfully by the pump during the 25 minutes required for the operation. i 4 By PAUL WILDER Tribune Staff Writer THE FLORIDA West Coast television audience will have a chance Wednesday night to see the work of a Tampan, even if they don't see the man himself. The Emperor Jones, Eugene O'Neill drama, which will be presented over NBC and WFLA-TV Wednesday night at 9 o'clock, will be directed by Fielder Cook, 32.

son of Mrs. George Cook, 2403 Ferdinand and of the late Dr. George Cook. Cook, who is in the TV department of J. YTalter Thompson Co.

advertising agency in New York, hit the jackpot in rave notices of TV critics with his direction of the recent TV drama, Patterns. "The production and direction of Fielder Cook constituted a fluid use of video's artistic tools that underscored how little the TV artistic horizons really have been explored" wrote Jack Gould in the New York Times. "Mr. Cook's direction was the work of a man who thinks with his eyes as well as his mind. His montages, especially several of his shots of the deserted executive floor, represented use of the camera to say something, not merely as an instrument of photography.

Mr. Cook, shockingly denied screen credit under the Kraft Theater's archaic rules, is a TV craftsman." TV columnist Jack O'Brian was less literary in his report of the success of Patterns: "the movies are hot on its tale of high finance" he said, and added "Director Fielder Cook has filmsters fretting they don't own his sensitive direction." Patterns was repeated last week on NBC, and indeed has been bought for the movies. Cook was born in Tampa and attended Plant High School before going to McCallie Military Academy in Chattanooga and Washington Lee University in Lexington, Va. Out of college he went to J. Walter Thompson agency in the TV department, working as assistant director in Lux Studio Theater and Kraft TV Theater shows.

He has written one script for Studio One. During the tvar he was an ensign aboard an LST in the Pacific. He was married to Sally Chamberlain of Boston in 1950. He is a brother of Mrs. John Germany, 2909 Fair Oaks Ave.

The words are often used interchangeably, but specifically, televising means the shooting of a scene or event with a TV camera, and telecasting means the entire operation, including sending the program out over the air.

Q. How did the cameramen tret such bi? closeups in the Gasparilla parade? A. By use of a 15-inch telescopic lens with a magnification of about 8 times. The camera will pick up the full figure of a person a block away. Q.

What went on at Gasparilla coronation which wasn't "cleared for television" and WFLA-TV had to fill in with film? A. The appearance of Will Mahoney, comedian who entertained the Gasparilla Krewe at the coronation could not be telecast because his contract was specifically for the Krewe function, and did not include televising of his material. The same contractural limitation prevented the telecasting of the Dorsey brothers' orchestra music. The' music of Ed Walker's orchestra for the coronation ceremonies was not thus restricted. Short Shots Jack Benny is "only 39" in his TV shows, but he was 61 Monday Valentine's Day.
