Bill Fomich reminded the Social Credit MLA that Surrey wants consultations with its planning department before the route through Surrey is chosen, not afterwards.

Aid. Ed McKitka asked if a route making use of the present power lines to the border has been studied. Wenman stated that the railroad wants a grade no steeper than 2. That little hill by Pacific Customs doesn't look much to me," Mr. Wenman remarked.

He stated that to a layman it seems a simple matter to cut through that hill, or tunnel it but apparently to railroad men it presents a considerable problem as far as grade is concerned. Joe Broadbent, Premier Bennett's own private railroader, has the matter of the Burlington Northern Railroad route in hand. That was the word to Surrey Municipal Council, from Robert Wenman, MLA for Delta-White Rock. The Premierhasdelegated the responsibility for getting an acceptable route chosen to the general manager of the British Columbia Railway.
