Schiek went to Des Moines Monday to join the Drake University football squad which began RURAL DAY WINNERS: Champion rural baseball team of 1940 from Norway Township. He won his freshman numeral last year at the center position, the same position which he played for two years on the Clarion high school team.

In the local fund raising for the American Korean foundation, sponsored jointly by the Clarion post of the American Legion and the Clarion theatre, $43.18 was collected from those attending shows at the theatre last week. Mr. and Mrs. P. M.

Banks of Fillmore, Mrs. S. J. West and Mrs. B.

A. Banks, both of Clarion, went to Fairbault, Minn. Thursday. While there they visited the woolen mills. Mr.

and Mrs. H. B. Engen left Wednesdayfor Rochester, Minnesota, after their daughter, Audrey, who has completed her three years of nurses training at the Kahler School of Nursing. On September 7 she will begin her duties as a nurse at the Clarion Memorial Hospital.

1943 TWENTY YEARS AGO Capt. Karl Weber arrived in the United States Monday to spend a 21 day furlough with his family in Clarion. Capt. Weber has been stationed in Greenland for the past nine months. The Holmes P.

T. A. will meet on Friday evening, Sept. 10th at the school. The program and refreshment committee will be Mr.

and Mrs. Lee Keller, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Anderson and Mr. and Mrs.

Willis Skiye. All in the community are urged to attend the meetings this year. Say Merry Christmas to the boys in the service with cigarettes. Let's send every boy on the honor roll a carton of cigarettes for Christmas. Christmas orders are now being accepted by the Corner Drug Store, Glenn Binkard Drug company and Cavanaugh Drug Store.

The price per carton for the men overseas is sixty-five cents. Limit of five cartons per man per order. The price per carton for men stationed in the United States and the U. S. territorial possession is $1.20 per carton.

1933 THIRTY YEARS AGO On Monday and Tuesday of next week St. John's Catholic Parish will sponsor a big fall festival on their school grounds. There will be rides, games, concessions, bingo and big athletic shows with many free prizes. Fried chicken supper both nights at 5:30. Also big dance both nights, music by the Rollickers.
