By ABIGAIL VAN BUREN Special to The Times DEAR ABBY: My wife's sister (I'll call her Myrtle) married a bum who has been AWOL from the service several times, Myrtle spent time, on two different occasions, in a mental hospital, and this last time when she came out, she decided to go back to her no-good husband. My wife and her whole family tried to talk Myrtle out of it, because this guy will have Myrtle back in the mental hospital in no time. He runs around with other women. (He is a regular sex maniac.) Myrtle won't listen to anybody.

Here is where I come into it: When my wife was trying to tell Myrtle what a louse her husband was, Myrtle said that I was no better that I had made several passes at HER. For women only Contraception may freeze passion By DR. LINDSAY CURTIS Special to The Times DEAR DR. CURTIS: I read with interest your letter from the woman who lost her desire for sex a few months after she had begun using an IUD (intra-uterine contraceptive device). I also had an IUD inserted last year, and after about six months my relationship with my husband became a nightmare.

Not only did I lose all desire for sex, but whenever my husband even touched me I became so upset I felt like screaming. Finally I talked the problem over with my mother, and she promptly asked whether I was using an IUD or not. She then told me about a friend of hers who had experienced the very same difficulty and said that once the IUD was removed everything returned to normal. TO BE TRUTHFUL, I was awfully skeptical. It seemed stupid to blame the whole problem on a little piece of plastic inside my uterus, and I felt convinced that the cause was mostly psychological.

Even so, I had the IUD removed out of sheer desperation, and within a month, believe it or not, I was back to normal. I feel that all doctors should be aware of this reaction so that they can warn their patients of such a possibility in advance. For a while it seemed as if I were losing my mind, and it was a bad time for my husband as well. Mrs. P.

Yes, the problem was psychological, but it was probably so deepseated that removal of the IUD was essential. This is a dirty, rotten bullfrog, and I wouldn't fire. My wife believes her my wife that Myrtle is lie. Myrtle is ugly as a spit on her if she was on Abby sister.

How can I prove to lying? TRUE BLUE DEAR TRUE: You can't. It's your word against Myrtle's. It seems to me that your past record (and Myrtle's) should speak for both of you. DEAR ABBY: Stan had a beard before we were married so my father was against our marriage from the start, but he decided to be friends with Stan when he shaved off his beard for our wedding. Well, after five months of being married, Stan decided to grow another beard, so my father told us he wanted nothing to do with me or my "hippie" husband.

Here is my father's reasoning: My younger Dear Abby What's your problem? You'll feel better if you get it off your chest. Write to ABBY, The Tampa Times, P.O. Box 191, Tampa, Fla. 33601. For a personal reply, enclose stamped, addressed en-" velope.

brother got the courage to let his hair grow longbecause of Stan's beard. My husband's beard is not a bushy, wild one. It is neat, well trimmed and looks very nice. Is my father being fair? He doesn't have to. kiss my husband or even like the beard on him, I'm the one who has to live with it, and I like it.

We. would like your opinion and the opinions of STAN'S WIFE, DEAR WIFE: Your father is being grossly unfair. But I must admit that I am prejudiced. I find well-manicured beards extremely attractive. DEAR ABBY: If you could give the young parents of today just one piece of advice, what would.

it be? NEW MOTHER DEAR MOTHER: Start early! A child must learn that no means NO! It doesn't mean maybe. And maybe doesn't mean yes. CLOTH WORLD OPEN APRIL 5 OUR TOWN 'N COUNTRY THIRD STORE SHOPPING CENTER IS COMING! 7555 W. HILLSBORO I EMOTIONAL DIFFICULTIES like the one you experienced are not caused by the IUD alone, however, women using the pill, diaphragm, and various other contraceptives sometimes voice the same complaint. In cases of hysterectomy, where the patient falsely assumas that she is less feminine, this type of "hang up" i is even more common and disturbing.

Men who have undergone vasectomy (tubes cut and tied) may experience similar problems from the masculine standpoint. When related to simple contraceptive methods, of course, the difficulty is solved with ease. One merely abandons the contraceptive method in question and tries a different one. With actual sterilization, however, there are no options. It is usually final or should be considered so when undertaken.

Consequently, those considering tubal sterilization or vasectomy should understand the possible psychological consequences before making a final decision. THESE ARE excellent methods, however, and must not be condemned for all because of the psychological effect upon a few.
