Marvin Cone Shows Works An exhibit of the recent paintings of Coe College Artist-In-Residence Marvin Cone will be on display in the Coe auditorium galleries May i through June 4. A 1914 graduate of Coe, Mr. Cone studied at the Chicago Art Institute and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Montpelier, before joining the Coe faculty as an instructor of art in 1919. A longtime associate of artist Grant Wood, Mr. Cone and Wood became known as the leading interpreters of the Iowa and mid- western scene during the 1920's and 1930's. Cone became a full professor in 1934 and headed the Coe art department until his retirement from active teaching last year to devote his full time to painting The artist's work is represented in all the leading in trv as well as in Guggenheim Award Goes to History Prof, Paul Glad Professor Paul Glad of the Coe history department received a Guggenheim Fellowship award, announced the John Simon Gug, genheim Memorial Foundation yesterday.

i Dr. Glad, taking a two year leave of absence from Coe, will first go to Europe under a Fulbright award of which he was also the recipient. Returning after a year abroad, he will continue his research under the Guggenheim award. This procedure has placed a great burden on the Business Office personnel as well as causing students to stand in line for long periods of time, announced Business Manager Heywood. Miss Helen Reich, Assistant Director of Student Affairs at SUI, will address the student body during Greek Week Convocation next Wednesday.

Miss Reich was the advisor to Panhellenic at SUI for a number of years. She is presently working as chairman of the Liason Committee of the National Association of Women Deans and Counselors. The purpose of this organization is to create better feelings for Greeks on the college campuses. On Tuesday night from 7-9 hi the TUB the annual Alpha Greek Sine will be held. A trophy will be awarded to the best fraternity song and one for the best sorority song.

Judges will be Dr. Gordon Ohlsson, Miss Eleanor Taylor, professor Edmund Thomas, Miss Jeannette Ringland, and Miss Patricia Reilly. Alpha Xi Delta is not entered in competition. Sandy Smith, chairman of the sing, wishes those groups who have not turned in the numbers they are going to sing to please do so. Winners last year were Lambda Chi Alpha and Alpha Gamma Delta.

The Pie Eating contest, sponsored by Kappa Delta, will be held Friday afternoon beginning at 12:30 p.m. Two members from each fraternity and independent organization on campus are allowed to enter the contest. Judging is based on who eats the most the fastest. The winners will i crowns and have the honor of throwing a pie into the face of the KD president.
