Four of the five local schools involved in conferences are still alive for winning their championships. Only Heritage Hills is out of the running in the PAC.

Forest Park does not compete in a conference. Jasper is still alive in the SIAC, Southridge and Pike Central still have shots in the PAC and Dubois is heading for at least a share of the title in the Lost River. SIAC RACE Jasper, with a 7-2 league mark, is presently in third place in the big SIAC behind Princeton (7-1) and Tell City (4-1). The Jasper-at-Tell City game Friday night is a key test for the Wildcats who must win the game to keep their conference hopes alive. If Jasper beats Tell City and then wins the rest of their league New Albany, Reitz, North and can win the championship provided they get help from Tell City.

Tell City would have to beat Princeton Feb. 14 to give the Cats the title. The Wildcats play more league games (14) than Princeton (12) and Tell City (11) and more than Vincennes (13) and Terre Haute North (9) who both also have two losses, the same as Jasper. Bedford has lost only once, but the Stars do not play the required minimum eight games and are not eligible for the championship. Another big showdown coming up in the SIAC is the Vincennes-Tell City game Saturday at Vincennes.

REBELS ON TOP The South Spencer Rebels are only 7-7 for the year, but they lead the PAC with a 4-1 record. However, the Rebs must face two of their chal- and Pike their last two league tests. The Rebs play at Pike Central this Friday and at Southridge Feb. 21. The Raiders are tied for second at 3-1.

They can clinch a tie for the championship with wins over Pike Central, tforth Posey and South Spencer in their last three league games. Pike Central is 2-1 in the league. The Chargers can clinch a tie with wins over South Spencer. Southridge, Wood Memorial and North Posey. Gibson Southern, also 3-1 in the PAC, can earn a share of the title with victories in their last three league games against Tecumseh, Wood Memorial and Heritage Hills.

On paper it appears Gibson Southern, who has won nine straight, is assured of at least a tie, but impossible to figure out who will gain that tie. JEEPS LOOK GOOD Jim Dubois Jeeps, riding a six game winning streak, appear to be in good shape to gain at least a tie for their first Lost River Conference championship. The Jeeps are 3-1 in the conference with only one league game West Washington Feb. 7. The Senators are only 1-13 for the year.

A Jeep victory would assure them of a tie with Henryville, who is 1-1 in the conference. The Jeeps would win the championship outright if the Hornets are beaten by either Borden, West Washington or Pekin Eastern in their last three league games. Ohio State Rallies To Beat Purdue By United Press International top-ranked Hoosiers may be running away with the Big Ten basketball crown, but their 73-57 win over Illinois Monday night as easy as anticipated.
