The flour and grain markets continue to rise, corresponding with the rise in the Liverpool market and a fair demand for export as well as for speculation prevails, based on a prospective rise in Great Britain. On the other hand our market for provisions is declining, especially Pork, making all desire to speculate.

After the next arrivals from California, and the payment of the dividends, a much easier money market is confidently anticipated. The following pertinent remarks on the subject of our gold exports, which attracts so much attention and some very unnecessary anxiety, are from the Boatvn Pout "GOLD a Nattral isn Panprn Aicnrr nr- Export.

Much of the gold received and exported has no proper connection with the banks or the national currency, except as happening to be of the same substance that in other circumstances is used as a national currency. It is in exactly the same position as pig copper. Both furnish portions of the national currency, and the coinage of tlie former is nothing more than the orovem- ment certificate of its quality. All the pig copper receivvd und produced in the country might as well go through the Philadelphia Mint as all tlie gold dust did not the greater value and more important purpose or me latter render necessary a government stamp, to make it universally merchantable. It is a new thing to see large movements of gold, and as gold has hitherto been received and exported as currency only, people will look at the present transactions as transactions in coin, till they liecome habituated to the new order of things.

But even now. should our aovernment refuse to rnin mora th.r, r-r. tain limited amount of gold dust or should it become more profitable to export it as dust than as csin, we should not hear one-bidf that we now do about the export of specie as uufavor- aoie in me country.
