The tone of the President's note was gratifying. Some issues made gain ranging from 3 to 5 points. The greatest evidence of strength was found in the established test the regain ing of dividends which had been taken off- at the beginning of business.

'Ray Consolidated. GuKeenheiru Exnlor. ation, Utah Copper and Chino all more than' recovered the dividends at which they 6old at the outset in the first transactions. Utah Copper, which finished yesterday f.t 69, sold this morning at 69 3-8 with the dividend off. Ray Consolidated recovered its dividend of 3-S and raaidir a gain of 1-4 in addition.
