A Plays Help A's In 'Senior' A pair of double plays, one in the final inning wi the bases loaded and only one out, preserved the Windsor Athletics' 3-2 triumph over the Orioles in Senior action Thursday. Pitcher Craig Schroeder ended the game in the seventh by scooping up a grounder, firing to catcher Tim Hart, who completed the double play with a toss to first-baseman Mike Eschler to put out the batter. Paul Duwelius stopped an earlier Oriole threat with two on in the fifth with an outstanding catch in the outfield and pegged the ball to second for another out. The Braves of the Highland Park league clinched the league title Thursday with a 4-3 victory over the Cubs, but it wasn't until the ninth inning that Craig Malmberg got the job done. Malmberg sent a drive deep over the center field fence in the bottom of the ninth.

Little League Harding only Yankee run with single and blanked the Tigers on two hits for a 1-0 victory at Beaverdale. Jamie Brown knocked in Pat Greene with the winning run with two outs in the sixth and gave the White Sox a 3-2 decision over the Yankees at Universitv. The first-place Red Sox topped the Indians, 2-0, at South Des Moines, on a combination two-hit shutout by Barry Lowe and Mark Morgan. BUSINESS BRIEFS Tries to Halt Bid for Armour Leased Wires to The Tribune The Justice Department filed a court action in Chicago, Thursday challenging Greyhound acquisition of control of Armour charging that the move violates an anti-trust consent decree issued against Armour and other meat packers in 1920. But Federal Judge Julius Hoffman refused to act on the request Friday saying "I have no authority at this point to order Greyhound to do anything." Judge Hoffman sharply criticized the Justice Department attorneys for the form in which they filed the complaint and the time involved in filing.

He suggested they go back to Washington, D.C., to talk the situation over with Justice Department officials. He scheduled another hearing on the matter for June 30. The 1920 decree bars Armour from dealing in a broad range of non-meat food products. A spokesman for Greyhound said the company plans "to take whatever action is necessary to firm up its acquisition of Armour." The Justice Department charged that Greyhound, through restaurant subsidiaries, is engaged in dealing in products that are barred to Armour by the decree. In an earlier court action, the department sought to prevent General Host Corp.

from controlling Armour, but a lower federal court rejected the department's legal reasoning. Subsequently General Host sold its Armour stock to Greyhound. Gas Shortage New York State Electric Gas Corp. has told the New York Public Service Commission that it may decline to accept any new gas customers whose annual consumption would exceed 12 million cubic feet. The utility said it was acting to protect gas supplies for home heating purposes in the event that extreme cold weather causes a substantial increase in gas consumption.

Some pipeline suppliers have said a current nationwide shortage of developed natural gas supplies was forcing them to limit new sales commitments. The proposed settlement, subject to ratification Sunday by union members, would end Oak Ridge's longest strike.

used to be Biafra at the end of June, but about 3 million people still are living in hunger and economic despair in the former rebel state.

Experts warn that the Red Cross pullback could imperil the lives of some million children who lived through or were born into the war of secession. National and state government rehabilitation commissions are slated to take over the Red Cross relief work, but there is widespread doubt of their ability to run effective and co-ordinated operations. Although starvation no longer hangs over the Ibo people and others who joined the rebellion, many go hungry in villages and towns around Owerri and Orlu, 240 miles southeast of Lagos. Thousands of children are severely undernourished, some lying in crowded hospitals with number tags around their necks, others wandering about, begging. Their milk rations will end when the Red Cross goes.

The Red Cross already is restricting some operations in order to provide food until June 30 for 30,000 of the worst cases who are in hospitals, as well as to give what they can to 200,000 outpatients. The federal government has allotted the equivalent $56 to each holder of worthless Biafran currency and plans to pump $28 million into the state's economy. Many feel this is too little money to make much impact, but it should help spur the war-ravaged region toward recovery. Black Decker Recalling Unit Leased Wire From Dow Jones TOWSON, MD. Black Decker Mfg.

The contract calls for providing the Defense Department with 92 truck-mounted cranes of 20-ton capacity each. Storms Lash Plains With Rain, Hail (By the Associated Press) Heavy thunderstorms walloped the central Great Plains Friday with an assortment of wind, heavy rain and hail. Showers lingered in parts of the northeast where severe storms late Thursday caused two deaths and considerable damage in a sweep through central upstate New York and southern New England. Fair and pleasant weather dominated most other sections of the nation.

Hailstones piled to a depth of 10 inches south of Oberlin, during a violent thunderstorm. The hail smashed numerous car and truck windows in an area northeast of Wichita. Cool and dry air spreading into the midwest and Great Lakes region dropped temperatures into the 30s in northern upper Michigan overnight.
