Steel Mills Are Closed by Rail Dispute By Assoctsted Press dispute over the suspension ot two railroaders forced the shutdown today of all plants of the U. S. Steel Corp. in the Pittsburgh area. About 4,50 (1 employes of the Union Railroad a subsidiary of "Big Steel," struck, bringing furlough orders to almost 5 (1 .000 men in the mills and plants dependent on the railroad's operation.

There was nn comment from the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen but an official ot the I'nion Railroad quoted a BUT official as saying the HRT uvis unable to stop what the union leader called an unauthorized walkout. The railroad connects various U. S. Steel plants. It hauls raw materials to the mills and carries away finished products.

It also serves the various departments within the plants. S. Steel said the plants cannot operate while the railroad is on strike. A U. S.

Steel official said all iron making blast furnaces and steel making open hearth furnaces are being banked as rapidly as possible. Security Agency Goes Into Cabinet By Associated Press WASHINGTON President Risen' first reorganization plan- transform the Federal Securny Agency into a Cabinet Department of Health, Education and won easy congressional approval. The new department, which will be the 10th of Cabinet rank, will become a reality 10 days after the President signs the resolution of appi'oval on which the Senate voted Monday. Mrs. Oveta Culp Hobby, Texas Democrat who now heads FSA, is the President's choice to be secretary of the new department.

She will get a year as a Cabinet office, a $5,000 raise. Her agency has 37,000 employes. The department will have jurisdiction over social security including all federally-aided public assistance programs, health activities, education programs, children's programs and the Food and Drug Administration, The Senate acted by voice vote with only six momhers on the floor. The House voted its approval two weeks ago, 291 to 85. DEATHS and FUNERALS Mrs.

Oscar Wright Dies Yesterday At Age 64 Years Mrs. Oscar Wright, of 1.302 Casey Avenue, died at 12:45 a. in. today at Good Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday at '2MU p.

m. at the Male Funeral Home in Fairfield. The Rev. Lester Pifer of Mt. Vernon will officiate and burial will be in Hill cemetery, east of Fairfield.

It was Mrs. Wright's last wish that no flowers be sent to her funeral. It her wish that friends donate to a charitable cause instead, preferably the Red Cross, Mrs. Wright was born east of Fairfield in Wayne county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Lilbourne Inskeep.

She was married to Oscar Wright, who survives. She was a member of the Central Church or Christ, Besides her husband, she is survived by one son Dr. Harold Wright, who is serving his internship in Chicago; one daughter, Nina Esther, at home; five brothers, Charles Inskeep of Ml. Vernon, Ben Inskeep of Albion. James inskeep 01 Chicago, Thomas Inskeep of Monroe.

La and W. Berrey Inskeep of Fairfield; two sisters, Emily Gill of Albion and Nina McLin of Huntington, W. a half-brother, Marion Mann of Roehelle; and a half-sister, Mrs. Phil Boyd of Wyola, Montana. Mrs.

Florence Buescher Dies At Age 61 Years Florence M. Buescher, RFT) 7, Ml. Vernon died at 3 p.m. yesterday at. her home following an extender! illness.

She was 61 one month and two days of age. was the wife of Albert E. Buescher. Mrs. Buescher was born February 2H, 189'J, in Cambridge.

the daughter of Eli and Mary Rummell Baldwin. She is survived by her husband and one son. Richard Buescher. RED 6, Ml. Vernon; two sisters.

Mrs. Louise Webb of South Bend. and Mrs. Helen Martin of Palo Alto, two brothers, Fred Baldwin of Montana and Lester Baldwin of South Rend; and one grandson. Mrs.

Buescher was a member of the Zion Methodist church. Her funeral will be from Hopewell Methodist church Wednesday at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Roscoe Gant. Burial will be in Hopewell cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.

PHILLIPS Vivien Leigh's Oscar Is Stolen By Associated broke into the Chelsea home of Sir Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh Monday night and stole an Oscar won by Miss Leigh. Silverware and clothing were also taken. Miss Leigh is in a hospital recovering from a nervous breakdown. She won an Oscar for her role in A Street Car Named Desire last year. In 1939 she won an Oscar for playing Scarlett O'Hara In Gone With the Wind.

Manford McGath, 76, of Dahlgren Dies Here Today Manford McGath, 76, well- known Dahlgren resident, died this morning at 6:15 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

He had been ill two months. Mr. McGath is survived by one daughter, Beulah, at home, one son, Frank W. McGath of Ml. Vernon and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the a 1 en Methodist church. Burial wil! be In Richardson Hill cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Gholson and Grigg Funeral Home in Dahlgren. Florence Archer Rites Wednesday Funeral services for Mi's. Florence L.

Archer will be held Wednesday ai 2:00 p. m. at the First Methodist, church, with Dr. R. B.

Guthrie officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Friends may call at Myers Chapel after 4:00 p. m. today.

At noon Wednesday the body will be removed to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour. Mrs. Archer, wife of J. D. Archer, died Sunday morning at Barnes Hospital in St.

Louis. She resided at 407 south 18th street. EXPLOSION IN IOWA COAL MINE TAKES 5 LIVES Three of Victims Were Inspectors Sent in 2 Hours After Blast. By Assoetsted LOViLIA, An explosion in the O'Brien Coal Company's shaft mine this Southern village took five lives late Monday. Three of the victims were men in an inspection parts which entered the mine several hours after the original blast.

Monroe County Coroner F. N. Bay said all the deaths apparently resulted from asphyxiation. Harold Barnes, 33 mine foreman, and Ben Nichols, 47. described as an experienced "shot firer" were found dead in the mine Monday evening.

Their bodies were behind a pile of debris caused by an explosion. The mine employs about 14 miners. All but Barnes and Nichols had left for the day before the explosion occurred. A mine inspector said the pair had been setting off black powder blasts to loosen coal. Later Monday night the mine claimed three more victims.

Tljey were Gerald Lane. 59. James Love, 54. and Thomas Little, 48. They were in a party of five which entered the mine to look it over, the coroner said.

Two survivors in the party of five stumbled to the mine entrance and told how their companions had been overcome. A rescue party reached the three bodies but was forced out by bad air before the bodies could be removed. Love earlier had been a member of the squad which brought out the bodies of Barnes and Nichols. Father of Mt. V.

Minister Dies Rev. W. G. Wodicker of 310 Main street received word yesterday on his birthday of the death of his father, Win. J.

Wodicker of St. Louis. lie died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Wodicker was 70 years, nine months and two days of age at the time of death.

His funeral will he held Thursday. April 2, at 3 p. m. from the Wacker-I lelderle Funeral Home, St. Louis.

His pallbearers will be his six sons. Surviving are the wife, Lily, six sons and three daughters. Res'. Wodicker is the Salem South Assoc iatinnal missionary and sers'es 32 Southern Baptist churches in this area. Fitzjerrells Rites Tomorrow Funeral services for Mrs.

Lizzie Alice Fitzjerrells will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p. m. at the Hungry Hill Baptist church. The Rev. Bird Green will officiate and burial will be in Hams Grove cemetery.

The body svill lie in state at Myers Chapel, where friends may call at any time until the funeral hour. Mrs. Fitzjerrells, 74, of RFD 1. Bonnie, died at 10:10 a. m.

yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital. Circuit Court Session Today Judge B. W. Eovaldi of Benton was presiding over a session of circuit court here today. The court session, in which civil actions are being taken before the bench, scheduled to be concluded tomorrow.

Patoka Couple Killed in Wreck By Associated ALTA.MONT, III. A Patoka, 111., couple was fatally injured Monday in a two-ear collision on U.S. Route 40 two miles ss'est of here. Five other persons were hurt. Dead are Dan Wiekersham, 65, and his wife, Mora, 54.

Wickersham died late Monday night at Mark Greer Hospital, Vandalia. His wife died there this morning. The list of injured includes two of the couple's eight children Donald. 16. and Thomas, 12.

VVickersham's sister, Mary, also is hospitalized. Mr. and Mrs. Dale King of N'esvlon. occupants of the other car, also are in Mark Greet Hospital.

Mrs. King's condition is described as serious. Seeks Divorce And Former Name Ester Lewis filed suit for divorce against John Henry Lesvis in circuit court here late yesterday, charging desertion in the complaint. She also seeks restoration of her maiden name, Gaddy. The couple married November 13, 1947 and separated in February, 1948, the complaint states.

Van Fleet Leaves The Army Today By Associated Press WASHINGTON--The crash of a 17-gun salute at dusk today signals the end of the 3X-year military career of Gen. James A. Van of the nation's most successful and most controversial combat soldiers. The 61-year-old svarrior steps into retirement less than 24 hours before a Senate armed services subcommittee is due to open an inquiry into his disputed claims that a serious and sometimes critical shortage of ammunition existed during all the 22 months he the U.

S. Eighth Army in eCorea. Army chiefs have denied that shortages hampered the Army in its mission. Several senator's had appealed to Secretary of the Army Stevens to keep Van Fleet in uniform although his retirement normally would be compulsory because of his 60 years of age. 35 years of Army service, and five years in the grade of major general.
