Russians Hail Mew Space Feat Vra The Soviet Union announced Thursday achievement of a new space first a spaceman who left his ship and returned safely while in orbit far above the earth. The Russian announcement said Lt. Col. Alexei Leonov stepped out into space in a specially fitted suit, performed an assigned task and returned to the craft piloted by Col. Wirephoto (AP) Former King Farouk of Egypt died of a heart attack early Thursday in Rome, Italy. He was 45. The roly poly former monarch, pictured here at the peak of his reign, was forced to abdicate the throne by rebellious army officers in 1952. His rule had started in 1936. Farouk is survived by a son and three daughters.
