Lunatic Walked 150 Mites. Menominee, Dec. 24. John Wajciehoki, who was sent to New. berry asylum a year ago, and who has twice escaped from that institution and walked to this city, has just turned up at Manitowoc, Wis.

He has never been returned to the asylum eince his last trip here. Upon hearing that the. state authorities were after him, he skipped and walked all the way to Manitowoc, 150 miles. He will be returned to the asylum. Mother Had Sen Jailed.

Bay City, Dec. 24. William SImolski, aged 21, was arraigned In the police court on charge of stealing an overcoat. Complaint was made by his mother, who says that she cannot stand hint around any longer, as he Steals everything he can lay. his hands oa and sells it for drink.

Blooniiagton, Dec. 24. In conse quence of a remarkable accident, Miss Jennie Fairbanks cf Mansfield, a niece of Vice President Fairbanks, has been brought to a hospital here. While putting on her hat. with a hatpin in one hand, a f-iend accidentally jostled Hiss Fair barks' arm, as a result tho )iu was buried in Miss Fairbanks eye.

The biennial report of Quartermaster-General Kidd, submitted to Gov. Bliss, shows that the revenue for the maintenance ol the Michigan National Guard and for defraying the expenses of the military departments is derived annually trom the following sources: Per capita tax of 5 cents under act of 1901, S121.049.10; annual apportionment from federal government, total, The distribution of the fund as fixed by the state military board included: Armory rents, company allowances, salaries of captains, sa'aries of military departments, rifle practice, contin gencies, encampment, fc.i5.10. It is said to be very desirable also that the companies be provided with ranges for target practice At the home stations.

Gen. Kldd recommends the plan of paying the enlisted men net to exceed 43 cents per drill of one and one-half each of the twenty-four annually required by the statute. This equipment will coat about 115.000. THROUGH THE HEART Omaha Man Shot Himself In Grand Raplda Hotel. Grand itapids, Dec. 24. A man supposed to be George Peters, from Omaha, was found dead in room 3, European hotel, at 7 o'clock last evening.

He called at the hotel shortly before that time, registered and asked for a room. Soon after the night clerk heard the report of a revolver and search revealed the man in his room lying on the bed, dead from a bullet wound through his heart. CONGER CLEARED. Judge Dismisses Contempt Proceedings Owing to Insufficient Evidence. Grand Rapids, Dec.

24. Judge Njwiiham Friday dismissed the contempt proceedings against E. D. Conger of the Grand Rapids Herald for an editorial criticising the conduct of the judge In the water scandal trials, holding the submitted by Attorney A. C.

Menominee, Dec. 24. Wolves In the upper peninsula are more plentiful than ever before and plans are being made to secure an Increase of the bjunty on the animals.
