TANNER the famed whistler of the song one of the best-selling phonograph re1940s, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 1990) at Pasadena Hospital. He was 86.

He died of congestive heart failure, said his daughter, Margot McBath. A musician and singer during the Big Band era, Mr. Tanner was best known for his whistled rendition of Heartaches, made with the Ted Weems Band for Decca Records in 1938. Though it sold well during that year, it didn't become a hit until 1947, selling 14-million copies in all. Unfortunately, Weems and Tanner's contract in the service, so they received "I've regretted it," Mr.

Petersburg. FULLER, RAYMOND 75, of Pinellas Park, died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 1990) at Metropolitan General Hospital. He was born in Newark, and came here in 1981 from Verona, NJ. He was a purchasing agent for Breeze Union, N.J., for 40 years.

He was a Protestant. Survivors include a son, James, Verona; a daughter, Mary Trout, Piscataway, a sister, Evelyn Lozier, Holiday; and four grandchildren. National Cremation Society, St. Petersburg. GRANT, LLOYD ERNEST, 78, of Pinellas Park, died Thursday (Dec.

20, 1990) at Central Park Lodge. He was born in Newton, and came here in 1978 from West Bath, Maine, where he worked for Bath Ironworks Corp. for 12 years and was a member of Mason Solar Lodge 14. A licensed amateur radio operator for W1GJZ for 57 years, he was a member of QCWA Amateur Radio Club in Clearwater. He was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Jean a son, Kenneth Bath, Maine; a sister, Katherine Olson, Clearwater; and three grandchildren. National Cremation Society, St. Petersburg. HARBIN, LEROY, 83, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Dec.

In 1953 Mr. Tanner left the Weems band and in 1959 retired in St. Petersburg from Birmingham, Ala. In an interview in 1979, he said he had stopped whistling when he lost his teeth 10 years before. "Now, all I do is take it easy," he said.

"But I never regretted a minute of my life." During World War II, he served in the Navy. He was a member of the Chicago Musicians Union. Survivors include two sons, William Elmo Tanner Birmingham, and John Emmet Tanner, St. Petersburg; two daughters, Margot T. McBath, St.

Petersburg, and Patricia T. Subil, Tampa; and nine grandchildren. His wife, Eleanor, died in 1983. R. Lee Williams Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Athens, and came here in 1930 from Georgia. She was a Baptist. Survivors include a son, Richard, Denver; a brother, William F. Nppling Largo; a sister, Louise Cole, St. Petersburg; three grandchildren; and a niece, Nancy Rummell, St.

Locally, she was a transporter at Metropolitan General Hospital. She was a Baptist. McNEAL, ESTHER HARRIS, 63, of 2255 21st Ave. St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (Dec. 18, 1990) at Humana Hospital-Sun Bay. She was born in Bolivar, and came here 32 years ago from Columbia, Tenn.

She was one of the original staff of instructors at the former Gibbs Junior College and taught at area schools until she retired in 1983, when she was employed by the Pinellas County Head Start Program. She was a member of the Democratic Party and the University of Tennessee Alumni Association and was active in the NAACP. She had a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in business administration. She was active in a senior citizens club and local bridge club. She was a member of Bethel Metropolitan Baptist Church.

Survivors include a foster son, Rev. Gary J. Wilson, East St. Louis, four brothers, Andrew a and Albert Harris, Bolivar, Albert Harris, Columbus, Ohio, and Walter Harris, St. Petersburg; three sisters, Marie Croom and Viola Butler, Henderson, and Annie Bell Rodgers, Memphis, and a niece, Dorothy Carter, Milwaukee.

Sanchez Son Funeral Directors, St. Petersburg. MOWRY, LOWELL 73, of 10200 Snug Harbor Road, St. Petersburg, died Friday (Dec. 21, 1990) at Largo Medical Center.

He was born in Washington Township, Ohio, and was a seasonal resident here since 1978 from Mansfield, Ohio, where he was a foreman at White-Westinghouse retiring after 30 years. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1718 BPOE and Moose Lodge 1610, both of Port Clinton, Ohio, and the American Legion Post 16 in Mansfield. Locally, he was a member of Seminole Elks Lodge BPOE. During World War II, he served in the Army. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Radene a son, Ronald Marblehead, Ohio; a brother, Raymond, Fort Meade; two sisters, Mabel Schmidt and Myrtle Bemiller, both of Mansfield; and two grandchildren. Vaccaro Funeral Home, St. Petersburg. with trafficking rant, 940 Missouri about 12:45 a.m., the records said. According to the records, two of the men agreed to sell 10 kiloof cocaine.

Hubbell Funeral Home, Belleair Bluffs. BUNNELL, EDNA 86, of Clearwater, died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 1990) at Clearwater Community Hospital. She was born Macomb County, and came here in 1967 from Naperville, Ill. She was a bookkeeper at Naperville National Bank.

She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clearwater, Order of the Eastern Star Althea Chapter 206, Naperville, and Clearwater Women's Club. Survivors include a son, Robert, Valrico. He was born in New York City, and came here in 1967 from Saddle Brook, NJ. He was an electrician and he taught vocational education. He was a president of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3 New York Retirees. DIETRICH, WILLIAM, 82, of Palm Harbor, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 1990) at Mease Hospital Countryside, Safety Harbor. He came here in 1979 from his native St. Louis. He was a secretary-treasurer at John Deere, Co.

DUNN, THOMAS "T.J." 81, of Clearwater, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 1990) at home. He was born in New York City, and came here in 1970 from Smithtown, N.Y. He was a statistician for the Federal Reserve Bank. He was a member of St.

Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Clearwater, Christ the Catholic Church, Smithtown, Italian-American Club, Clearwater, and Mission Hills Club, N.Y. Survivors include his wife, Elvira; two sons, Roy, Clearwater, and John, Smithtown; a daughter, Norma Butta, Smithtown; a sister, Veronica Engleman, Hillsdale, 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. GALLOWAY, JOSEPH 73, of Tarpon Springs, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 1990) at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital, Tarpon Springs. He was born in Baltimore and came here in 1979 from Downingtown, Pa. He was an advertising salesman. He was a first lieutenant in the Army in World War II and he received the Distinguished Service Cross.

He was an Episcopalian. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two sons Joseph Winter Haven, and Thomas T. Clearwater; two daughters, Sandra B. Tupper, Oldsmar, and Nina G. Robinson, Tarpon Springs; two brothers, Lawrence Baltimore, and C.

He was born in Durham, N.C. He worked for Shell Oil Co. and he was a graduate of Duke University, Durham. Survivors include his wife, Ann Reeves, Still Hope; a daughter, LaDare Robinson II, Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Winston L. Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel, Columbia, S.C. JOHNSTON, DAVID BRANDON 8 81, of Belleair, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 1990) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. He was born in Chicago and came here in 1973 from Indianapolis. He worked in data processing 37 years for Technologies.

He was a construction superintendent for Sears, Roebuck and Co. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Survivors include his wife, Viola; a sister, Hazel Ytzen, Hudson; and several nieces and nephews. Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, Clearwater. NEARMAN, JOHN JOSEPH, 66, of Seminole died Thursday (Dec.

20, 1990) at University General Hospital of Seminole. He was born in Bay City, and came here in 1983 from Carbondale, Ill. He was a corrections officer at the Marion Federal Penitentiary, Illinois. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. His memberships included Elks Lodge 2519, Seminole, American Legion 273, Maderia Beach and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2592.

SEELIG, MARY IRENE, 69, of Palm Harbor, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 1990) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and came here in 1980 from Reading, Pa. She taught handicapped children and was a secretary at the Bank of Pennsylvania. She graduated from St.

Francis Academy, Brooklyn, and Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. She was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, Palm Harbor. Survivors include her husband, Charles; two sons, Charles Gettysburg, and Robert, Perry Hall, a daughter, Patricia Lastrani, Shillington, a sister, Kathleen Ryan, Warwick, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. Paul, Minn. Peters- ST. HILAIRE, JOSEPH FRAN- COIS XAVIER, 81, of 4915 Bay St. NE, St. Petersburg, died Friday (Dec. 21, 1990) at St.

Anthony's Hospital. He was born in Quebec and came here in 1987 from Bonita Springs. He was a machine operator for Holochrome Manufacturing, West Hartford, Conn. War II, he served in the Army. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Alice and two brothers, Edward, Montreal, and Lucien, Bonita Springs. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, St. Petersburg. TRACY, MARY, 81, of Gulfport, died Friday (Dec. 21, 1990) at home.

She was born in Hamilton, Scotland, and came here in 1959 from Cleveland, where she was an owner of a grocery store. She was a member of St. Petersburg Lithuanian Club and the St. Petersburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous. She belonged to Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and its women's club.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Tracy, Gulfport; three sisters, Anne McConville, Wickliffe, Ohio, Nellie Arunski, Cleveland, and Helen Arunski, St. Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
