College St. Illinois Phone 203 Bell 230 ILLINOIS DEFEATS LINCOLN COLLEGE Win Fast Game by Score of 23 to 18-Mellon Stars for Blue and White. Lincoln fell before Coach Harmon's Blue and White five at David Prince gymnasium Friday night in a fast and exciting game, the final count being 23 Incidentally Illinois' third straight victory. The game. was full of action as Lincoln five proved to be a fighting bunch and were on their toes all the time.

During the first half the teams raced neck and neck, score at the close of the half being 13 to 12 in favor of Illinois. However. Illinois should have had more points as time and again shots went inside the hoop then bounded out. In the second half Illinois scored two baskets before Lincoln finally counted with a free throw. Illinois maintained her advantage thruout 3 the half and only in the last few minutes of play when coach Harmon pulled out his entire squad and inserted second string men did Lincoln break thru Illinois defense for two counters.

Illinois looked good last night. The men exhibited some excellent team work and worked the ball down the floor in fine shape. They also outclassed the visitors in passing and in accuracy in basket shooting, tho their work was not as good as they have shown. Mellon was the of the 11- stash linois team. He not only caged six baskets but pledged the floor well, passed in excellent form and played a whale of a game on defense.

The visiting forwards were seldom able to break thru and most of their shots werechurried by their fast work. WAVERLY TROUNCES ATHENS 26 TO 10 Win Game in Decisive Fashion on Athens Train Carried Waverly Rooters Knight Dislocates Knee. Athens, Jan. 21-Waverly High demonstrated that she has one of the strongest basketball fives in Central Illinois by decisively defeating Athens high here tonight by a score of 26 to 10. Waverly outclassed the local tossers in all departments of the game and were never in danger thruout. Gorman, Redfern, Knight and Crum were the point makers for Waverly.

They played a derful game and displayed the best team work seen here this season. It was an expensive victory for Waverly, however, as Knight, one of the strongest players on the Waverly squad, suffered a dislocated knee in the latter part of the game. Crum then went to center, Jarrett to guard and Redfern to forward. Waverly rooters to the number of 155 came to Athens in a special train and furnished lots of "pep" cheering their team with yells durgame. The score: WAVERLY: F.G.

KNIGHTS TRIM WAVERLY INDEES Win Fast Game by Score of 29 to 23-Vicitors Aided by Seymour and Teaney of Franklin. The Kinghts of Columbus defeated the Waveriy Independents at Liberty hall Friday night by a score of 29 to 23. The game was hard fought, the score at the end of the first half being 13 to 12 in favor of the Knights. Waverly was assisted in the game by Seymour and Teaney of Franklin. Had it not been for these players it 1 is probable the visitors would not have made so good a showing.

Teaney especially played well and scored eight of Waverly's points. cunner, were did the a large some Knights factor excellent Zell in work and the local victory. Carson played a good offensive game and Cain did some excellent guarding until he was sent to the side lines for personal fouls. Costello took his place but did not have much opportunity as the game wag then nearly over. Woulfe, tho opposed by AR experfenced player in Seymour played a good game at center.

Pittsfield, Jan. high school defeated Hannibal high here tonight by a score of 37 to 19. The Missouri five was outclassed and never had a chance from the first whistle. Plattner and Walsh were the stars for the locals while W. Dillingham and Robertson played the best game for Hannibal.

KNOLES PRISONERS GET STUCK IN MID Burlington, Iowa, Jan. Two prisoners working on the Fort Madison prison farm got stuck in the mud, with a motor truck on their to the prison this evening and their delay in returning gave rise to a rumor that they had escaped. When searchers went out they found them headed toward the prison but unable to navigate Lee county's roads. Both are safely inside the prison walls tonight. JUMPS FROM WI EVENTH STORY OF HOTEL New York, Jan.

M. Coleman, who jumped from the eleventh story of a Washington hotel today was recovering from attack of grippe and was suban ject to spasmodic spells of ver. tigo, members of family stated here tonight. HENRY FORD GAINS IN RECONS OF VOTES Washington, Jan. -Henry Ford's ent gain over Senator Newberry in their Michigan senatorial contest was 2.099 votes at the close of work today by the senate privileges elections committee with 1,402 of 232 state precincts recanvassed. Senator Newberry's plurality was about 7,500 and the heavier votprecincts still remained to be recounted. Mrs.

21 -Jacksonville lost to Jerseyville High here tonight by a score of 29 to 21. The visitors played a hard game but the local excelled in team work and were more accurate in basket shooting. For Jacksonville, the points were made by Woods, Goebei, Hunter and Mawson. Post was the chief pointmaker for Jerseyville, but was closely crowded by Seago. Between them they negotiated 25 points for the locals.

Malta shrine of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem was organized in Jacksonville Friday night. This, the newest of the Masonic organizations In the city, begins its career with a charter membership of 64, including many well known men and women of Jacksonville. Members of the order of the Eastern Star are admitted to the shrine on petition and the movement was started here some weeks ago for the institution of a local shrine. There are now within the state 51 shrines and: the organization a large place in Masonic affairs.
