In State Bank Block. THE COUNTY NEWS. Whittemore. The wind that blew, and the corn that grew, and the sovereign too "If anybody knew." The (jreat elocutionist Monday night. Do not fail to hear him.

One of Uncle Sams mail contractors was in the city Monday letting mail routes. M. P. McDonell received a whole car load of fartn machinery and buggies from Studebacker of South Bend, Monday. Mr.

and Mrs. Gilbert Sheppard are nicely-settled and arc keeping house just like old people. Corey Bidgway says that we misrepresented him in regard to the clog deal. He wants two St. Bernards, ono bird purp and a poodle.

Whittemore is bound to be at the new millinery shops in one week and more promised. Thos. Corcoran and your correspondent have shook hands over the bloody chasm. The matrimonial war has been abandoned, and all's quite on Potomac tonight. The Wbittemore Social Club sold their billiard table to Patsy Higgins of Ledyard.

"While he was loading the table he left the balls, 27 in number, on the the sidewalk, and some one carried them off. The party who has them will please leave them at the Whittemore State Bank. A. H. Dorweiler raflled his bicycle Saturday evening and Henry Goetsch held the lucky is now the owner of a fine wheel that cost him the magnificent sum of five cents.

Goetsch held No. 5. John Eappe of Eacine, was in the city Saturday. John owns real estate in the vicinity and was out looking after his interests. Col.

Sessions was in the city Thursday of last week. There was no politics in the Colonel's visit at this time a business trip. Geo. W. Ago, of Sioux City, the Colonel's law partner, was on our streets the day before the Colonel came, he ton was on business.

T. H. McEnroe made his maiden speech in the district court at Algona one day last week. It was in defense of Dr. Felling and those who heard Mac, say he did himself proud, and put his Mark high on the scroll as one of the coming orators and advocates of big Kossuth.

Success to you Mac. An attempt at burglary was made on the store of J. T. Creighton one night last week. A glass in the door was broken out and the noise awakened Miss Gearing who has rooms above the store, she raised a window and the thief flew as fast as he could.

Ole, the Swede, Tuesday evening, was a big success. Manager Bircher has a fine troupe and puts on first- class plays and ought to succeed. Since we could not induce Corcoran into our notion of matrimony, we have concluded that when the signs of the zodiac are in perehillion, and there are no spots on 'the moon, we will get married ourselves, that includes rny girl and myself. There is a rumor on the street that L. J.

DeGraw has sold his interest in the dray line and will go to farming. Now Lon we know a thing or two about'farming and can inform you of one thing. Don't plant yonr pumkins in the dark of the moon. Our farmers are seeding, and those who put in grain before the 4-days wind storm can find nine-tenths of it right on top of the ground. Go a little slow about seeding this very dry weather.

We understand that Capt. Ingham caught a tarpon in Tampa Bay, Florida, and intends having, it taxi- dermisted and will bring his 'ponship home. Well we are going the Rocky Mountains in a month or so, and intend killing a grizzly bear, and we think that will lay over the deck of any tarpon. We'll have him stuffed, you bet. There is a strife in our city between several of our citizens as to who was the most truthful.

The isMcGoverni Boyle, Wagner, Johnson, Smith, Creighton and Chas. Thompson in the race, and Pat Thompson and Jo DeGraw fighting for second place. P. A. W.

Dr.

Dennedy was called and set the broken member, and the little fellow is getting along nicely. Burt. Monitor: Brahm Watkins recently bought the Lewis H. Smith quarter in south of the Elmer Hodgson old farm. He got it for about $19 per acre, which is a bargain.

There arc not many pieces left in these parts that price or thereabouts. Numerous families have arrived in this vicinity of late from Eastern points to settle upon some of our rich and Increiising-in-value real estate. Jno. and Ropert Gall ion have rented the Capt. Jeanson-big farm for this season.

The Captain, it will be remembered, moved to Des Moines some time ago. i German ia. A large number of people from our neighboring towns, were here Tuesday to witness tho horse race and shoot by the members of the gun club. Mr. Bruhns and family were at Buffalo Center Sunday to attend the funeral of an old friend.

The new billiard hall is completed and ready for business. C. Thompson of Bancroft was In town Tuesday. Mr. Best returned home Saturday after a few clays visit with friends near Wesley.

Henry Bruhns went to Buffalo Center on his wheel. Geo. Wheelock has had the good fortune to get a nice flowing well on his property in the north part of town. The well is only sixty-eight feet deep and flows a two-inch pipe full. Such a prize is not found often and Mr.

Wheelock can consider his roperty increased in value nearly a alf. This makes the sixth flowing well in our town. Chas. Best and James McGuire were at Buffalo Center Sunday. Aggie Eeimers of Bancroft is here visiting her brother Peter.
