Scripture was read by Miss Betty James, and Miss Leah Tayman, accompanied by Miss Rhoda Olds, gave a group of vocal selections.

C. After a short business session, Mr. Gerhart reviewed the last chapter of the society study book. Instrumental music was played by Ruby The meeting was then closed with a prayer by Mrs H. Gates.

The Junior Class was formally recognized at the chapel exercises Saturday morning at Centenary church. The faculty appeared in academic costume and in formal procession took their places in the church. Miss Helen Tuschhoff of Shelbyville is president of the class.

A distinct recognition has come to the Department of Secretarial Training through the class in English and Letter Writing, which entered a ua-1 tional letter writing contest recently conducted by the Gregg Publishing Company in which the company gave away cash prizes amounting to $250. The contest required of each entry a chain of ten letters chosen from the actual working files of an actual, existing company; however, fictitious names might be supplied, the letters re-edited, using them mainly for subject manner. For their entry the class at Illinois Woman's College selected letters from the files of the Eli Bridge Company, composed by the sales manager, Mr. B. Roodhouse.

Approximately two thousand business letters were submitted representing each state in the union and including letters from big business firms prepared by letter writing specialists, and the department at I. was awarded one of the major prizes. Miss Annabel Crum is head of the department and instructor of the letter voting class. For the cheerful cooperation of the Big Eli company the department is most grateful, and to the company is already assured a certain amount of wholesome advertising Word has been received that Dr. and Mrs.
