glorious Fourth was cele brated by our citizens in a patriotic style, nearly all devoting it to glorifying in some way. In Jasper the citizens were aroused at 3 in the morning by the thundertooesoi Cap. M. Smith's light artillery. At tonr o'clock the court house bell was rnng.

the citizens assembled, and when the fiery god of day shot hit first silver rays athwart the heavens, they met and gently, gladly kissed the emblem of our nation's pride, proudly floating in the ambient air, from the top of a beautiful hickory pole, pnt up thus early in the morning in honor of the great Democratic triumph so nobly achieved by our self-sacrificing sires of As the day was an intensely hot one, our citizens afterwards fully appreciated their early morning labors. At a pole was raised, din ner had, and a glorious dance kept up all night and next day. At Huntingburg the celebration un der the direction ot the Huntingbnrg Brass Band passed off very pleasantly The delightful music discoursed by the Band added greatly to the inter est of the oceasien. In the morning the Declaration of Independence waa read in German bv Mr. E.

Brundicic and in English by C. Doane, and speeches were made by Messjs. Smith and C. Doane. After dinner Messrs.

8. Williams and A. Holt hans were called upon and addressed the assembly in short but able speeches; the speakers all inculcating the necessity lor a lofty patriotism. Mr. H.

Rothert, as Marshal ot the day, dischrrged his duties in a highly creditable manner. A handsome pole was raised, and a beautiful starry banner run up to the At Uaysvllle the Declaration was read by Mr. E. O. Connelly, nod addresses made by W.

0. Adams, Kevs. Shively and Moore, and a Mr. Maples. A bountiful dinner was set in tne grove; the Sabbath School children enjoved themselves hugely, and flio 4th of July was unanimously vo ted a good institution.
