Dear Abby BOYS WILL BE BOYS Abigail Van Buren DEAR ABBY: I can sympathize with the members of the Retail Clerks Association, who have difficulty knowing whether some customers should be addressed as "Sir, or "Madam. I have six children and seventeen grandchildren, and at my age it is hard to keep track of all their names. Yesterday one of my granddaughters and her husband called on me. When they walked into the house they looked like twins! They both wore jeans, boots, sweaters and jackets.

Their hair was exactly the same color. and their haircuts were identical. I really did not know which one was my granddaughter until they removed their jackets. What is this world coming to? It doesn't make sense when one can't tell the boys from the girls. BAFFLED IN PHILA.

DEAR BAFFLED: Be patient. As long as the boys and the girls can tell, things will work out all right. DEAR ABBY: Thirty years my husband divorced his ago first wife who left him with a son. We were married when the boy was five years old. For the past 25 years there has been no contact between my stepson and his real mother.

In two weeks my son is getting marrled. Only the immediate familv will attend the ceremonv My husband's mother called and told me that if my son's real mother was not invited. my mother-in-law and her daughter would not attend the wedding. My husband and I feel that something that has been literally dead for 30 years should not be revived at a time like this. It would be worse than a slap in the face to us both after raising that boy along with four other children as one family What is vour advice? OFFENDED MOTHER DEAR OFFENDED: It is curious that vour husband's mother would place von in the awkward position of either inviting vour son's "real" mother (in fact a stranger) or excluding her and her daughter.

too. Why? Leave the decision up to vour son and his bride. It's THEIR wedding. DEAR ABBY: I am a widow of 53, but I have been told that I look much younger. I am keeping company with a man of 26.

My children are grown and have families of their own. My problem is that my family and friends object to my relationship FOLLOWING MOTHER If she looks vaguely familiar, there's a good reason. Tina Marquand, 19, is the daughter of the late movie actress Maria Montez and French actor Jean Pierre Aumont. She's already done one movie in England and now is making her American debut in "Texas Across the River" at Holly. wood's Universal Studios, where Maria was a star.

They think I should find someone older. Abby, have gone with older men, but they all seem to go out with a widow for just one thing, and I spend the whole evening fighting them off. With Hugo, I don't have to worry. Do you think the age difference to too great between us? Please be honest. ACCUSTOMED TO HIS FACE DEAR ACCUSTOMED: To "go no.

But to marry, well, think ahead 20 years. DEAR ABBY: Several months ago I was taking a bath when the telephone rang. Fearful that it was news about my mother, who had been very ill. I hurridly got out of the bathtub. and in my haste, I slipped and fell.

I managed to hobble to the phone, although I was in terribel pain, and when I answered it, a woman barked in an angry tone, "WRONG as though it was MY fault that she got a wong number. Then she slammed down the receiver. As a result of that fall, I injured my back and was unable to attend my mother's funeral six days later.
