I eaanet consent to abuse ithr th administration or the tariff, because of tha apprehended deficiency. We malt adapt our mean of income to our cause of expenditure. It was exceedingly anstatatmanlik in Mr. Polk and Mr. Walker, after the vot of their administration, to talk of confining th ordinary ex- Etaditure of th government to $25,000,000, er to mit it income by anticipation to $32,000,000. Tba sritls very different from that mad up in nullification time, by their belligerencies, the authorities of the state of Carolina. U we abolish slavery here, it would hardly pay South Carolina to tta-tioa a division or two of bar standing army around th cspitol, in order to see that her members' boots war duly blacktd by servile hands ; nor, should California walk into tbo Union as fully armed with the attribute of sovereignty, as th daughter of Jove with those of war, and without a spot of " nigger-Ism" upon ber golden fields, is it perceived how all South Carolina preparations are to avail to get her out 1 Tb southern men say it is a dark question. They wish to mak it so, but w, free-soil men, mean, U lea alon. to make it all light. They shall hare the bleesings of slavery all to themselves, aad if the system doee not hug them to death, we shall wish them joy of their deliveranoe.
