PETERSBURG TIMES MONDAY, JUNE 12, 1989 7D TELEVISION TNT profiles a Hollywood legend PRIME-TIME PICK Doctor, Doctor (10:30 p.m., WTVT-Channel 13) is, according to CBS Entertain By PATTY LADD Lot Angalat Dally Newt ment President Kim LeMasters, his network's only original series scheduled for the summer months. This series of six half-hours stars Matt Frewer Max Headroom) as an idealistic young general practitioner. The competent physician likes to make house calls, attends carefully to the needs of his patients but finds he must battle the corporate concerns of his partners (Julius Carry III, Beau Gravitte, Maureen Mueller), balance his budding career as a writer and deal with both his money-minded lawyer (Holly Fulger) and the producer of a morning talk show (Jane Brucker) where he makes appearances as resident medical consultant. Benson's Inga Swenson joins the cast next week as his mother, with Dakin Matthews as his surgeon father.

Norman Steinberg In the Beginning, When Things Were Rotten) created and produced Doctor, Doctor. JON BURLINGAME, TV Data The funny, quirky, sometimes caustic show was created by Norman Steinberg, co-writer of the hit movie comedy My Favorite Year. "We wanted to do something different than your usual single-parent sitcom format," said Frewer, best-known for his role as video star Max Headroom. "This says some important things about the practice of medicine and says them in a very funny way. Norman wrote the show, and the usual practice in television is, 'Don't mutilate my Norman let the reins go and said, 'Anytime you want to ad lib, go We had a great relationship." Stratford, says Frewer, "is basically a nice guy with a wry sense of humor.

He means well, but he sometimes tries too hard. His personal life falls by the wayside because of his work." The six-episode series makes its debut tonight at 10:30, on WTVT-Ch.
