Toronto won 8-3 in 10 innings.

MINNEAPOLIS Dave Stewart and Allan Anderson both had streaks come to an end Monday night. Stewart (6-1), who had won eight straight decisions, gave up six runs on 10 hits in four innings and lost for the first time since last Sept. 8. Meanwhile, Anderson (2-4), who had dropped three straight since his last victory on April 13, pitched a four-hitter to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 6-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics. Kirby Puckett keyed Minnesota's 15-hit attack with the second five-hit game of his career as the Twins won for the 10th time in their last 12 games and Oakland lost its third straight for the first time this season.

"You've got to feel real fortunate to have success against a guy like Stewart," Twins manager Tom Kelly said. "(Anderson) really took the bull by the horns." Said A's manager Tony LaRus-sa: "I don't think (Stewart) was that shabby. We didn't fool them all night. They were on everything." Anderson credited a change in attitude for the victory. "I felt better mentally tonight er's choice to the pitcher and stole second.

Both runners scored on Gruber's second two-run single of the game. After George Bell singled, Jerry Don Gleaton relieved Henneman. Fred McGriff hit Gleaton's first pitch into the centerfield bleachers. After giving up a first-inning run, Tigers starter Frank Tanana dominated the Blue Jays, retiring 11 in a row before faltering in the eighth, setting up Gruber's first RBI single. Royals 9, Red Sox 5 (10) KANSAS CITY, Mo.

Rey Palacios, who entered the game in the ninth inning as a pinch runner, hit a grand slam with two out in the 10th, his first hit of the season, giving Kansas City a 9-5 victory over Boston. Boston relief ace Jeff Reardon (1-1) gave up two-out singles to George Brett and Jim Eisenreich and walked Willie Wilson. Palacios, who had been 0-for-5, then hammered a 1-1 pinch over the leftfield fence. KANSAS abrbbl than I have all season," he said. He was victimized only by Jose Canseco, who hit solo homers in the sixth and ninth.

Canseco has 11 home runs. "I felt like I was in command even though I walked a lot of guys," said Anderson, who walked five and struck out five. Blue Jays 8, Tigers 3 DETROIT Kelly Gruber had to be wondering how many game-winning hits he could come up with Monday. With Toronto trailing the Tigers 2-1 in the eighth inning, Gruber hit a two-run single off Mike Henneman. But Detroit tied the game, forcing Gruber to hit another two-run single in the 10th, again off Henneman, as Toronto won 8-3.

Gruber said he was upset with himself for failing to advance a runner early in the game. "I was trying a little harder after the first," he said. "I didn't get the runner over, so I had to do something." "I didn't throw the ball where I wanted to," said Henneman (0-3). "I screwed up. It is as simple as that." In the 10th, Junior Felix led off with a walk and went to third on Tony Fernandez's single.
