10. IT'S YOUR MONEY Savings Plan Still Termed Important By WENDELL COLTIN "I vas very much interested In your column citing the man who wondered why his property- owning neighbor was able to draw Social Security benefits," writes a New England reader. "Perhaps 1 am old-fashioned," he continues, "but it was Impressed on me early in life that It was wise to save for old age. Social Security was not Intended to be a complete pension system; It is merelytosup- pleraenl savings'or pensions. "The world owes no one a living; we should be thankful that the government provides a leg up toward a nest egg!" lie concludes emphatically.

4 0) From Mentor, Ohio: "Seven years ago I remarried. My first husband died, just wonder if I am covered by Social Security with my second husband." L.N. A) It Is possible you may be entitled lo a benefit on either your late husband's work under Social Security, or your present husband's. However, there i.s not enough Information in your letter to make a definite state- ment either way. You would be wise to visit you Social Security office to inquire about your eligibility for benefits on either account.

You may notrecelvebolh. Q) A 75-year-old widow pens a letter from Cameron, W. Va, In which she tells us she is drawing Social Security bane- fits of $60 per month and Is finding regular visits to her physician and purchase of medicines lo be costly. She anxiously inquires, "Am I eligible for the S35 per month 0 N'o one can live on $60 per month." R. T.

We're sorry to tell you the $35 benefit is only for persons 12 and over who are not receiving any other govenmental pension or public benefit. Your Social Security checks rule you out, Why not discuss your financial situation and cost-of- living circumstances with your local public assistance office? Along with being sympathetic, perhaps they will also be able to help. Year questions on Social Security and Medicare are welcomed.
