18B The Coshocton Tribune Sunday, May 24, 1981 Geauga Lake Rides Will Thrill 700,000 ThisYear THIS SUMMER The unusual optics in the movie theatre produce a real sense of participating in diving planes, trucks hurtling down cliffs, erupting volcanoes ana other misadventures during ten minutes of pure action guaranteed to create goose bumps and flip-flopping stomaches. Away from the midway's excitement, the park's restaurants feature inexpensive dining in air-conditioned comfort for the weary, hot and hungry. The Buffet Cafeteria and Spaghetti House offer main entrees at affordable prices as does the -Wharf which has outdoor seating overlooking the waterfront. Admission is $8.95 for each guest four years or older but numerous discount coupons and group rates are available for aggressive consumers who search them out at supermarkets, shopping malls, civic organizations or places of employment. Children three years or younger are free.

The park itself is conveniently located southeast of Cleveland, nine miles north of Ohio Turnpike Exit 13 and is also easily reached via 1-271, 1-480 or 1-90. When the calendar finally eads "May" it means two (li Another long winter isomer; and (2) Geauga Lake is open. -The Aurora, Ohio amusement park opened for weekends only Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3 with daily operation commencing Memorial Day Weekend. Park hours during May weekends are 12 noon -8 p.m. For amusement park bugs, Geauga Lake has two new ride attractions for the coming season the Yo-Yo and the Rotor both specializing in speed, height and dizzying motion.

The Yo-Yo, true to its name, bounces riders up and down in free swinging chairs, meanwhile rotating each unit in a circular motion. The Rotor, another circular ride, dishes out a lesson in weightlessness. Pinned in their seats by centrifigal force, guests will experience "outer space" when the floor of the ride falls away, leaving riders at the mercy of the laws of physics. Geauga's prime asset remains the super coasters, which number three the Big Dipper, a wooden coaster and the Corkscrew and Double Loop, two of the modern steel-track loop coasters that thrill riders with upside down loops. Other long-time favorites are the Antique Cars, the Skyscraper, the Big Ditch, the Carrousel and a raft of others.

The park has over 100 rides and attractions in all. While rides are the chief entertainment, a good alternative, especially for guests who enjoy a slower pace and like on-stage entertainment, is the park's live variety shows in the Kroger Palace Theatre and the WHK Country Theatre. At the Palace, "Sing Our Songs, America!" a musical revue of this nation's songs holds forth and "Country A-Callin'," a country-western revue graces the stage at the Country Theatre. Both shows feature strong vocalists, bright costumes and sets and excellent choreography among the young, college-aged casts. Other live attractions include "Magic Mania" in the Variety Gazebo and "Once Upon a Story" a puppet story, a dixieland band, Geauga Dog and his Fun Bunch Pals the Cinema 180, a movie theatre with a wide-angle screen.
