Radio and TV Day by Day At least one new television show has established itself on a permanent basis as a result of premieres this week. The series by comedian Peter Lind Hayes and his singing wife, Mary Healy, is not their first effort at TV by any means but most observers have hailed it as their best. Simply titled "Peter and Mary," the half-hour production is set up to depict the at-home activities of a couple, with such guests as Gloria Swanson and dancing star Hal Leroy. Lightly humorous with the added help of Mary Wickes and Claud Stroud, it is reminiscent of the satisfying effect produced by George Burns and Gracie Allen in their Mr. and The program is on N.B.C.-TV.

Another premiere was the second try of Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy at television (their first was just after the war). A movie film copy of the original, it lacked some of the spontaneity of a live production. However, the talent that Bergen has so long displayed in radio makes it comparatively easy for him to transfer to television. His show, on C.B.S.-TV, was an adaptation of some of his radio scripts with the necessary visual touches added. Included was the introduction of Podine Poffington, a five-foot-tall puppet.

Bergen's return to television, coming with the way already paved by Paul Winchell and his Jerry Mahoney should liven things up a bit from the ventriloquist's standpoint. His next appearance is in a Walt Disney film-produced show planned for Christmas. On Traffic Safety Traffic Safety has the spot on Listen, Voters! tonight when Charles F. Rail Service Cut To Atlantic City CAMDEN, Nov. 27 W) High water and storm damage have caused cancellation of all New York-Atlantic City rail service and a sharp curtailment of Philadelphia-Atlantic City operations by the Pennsylvania-Reading seashore line. The railroad announced a revised schedule goes into effect today with some sections of track still under water and repair crews still working to clear up tracks and fill in washed out portions. A railroad spokesman said Atlantic City will remain without direct rail service indefinitely.

Only six trains were run between Philadelphia and Absecon yesterday, rather than the nine usually operated on Sundays. Buses carried train passengers the remaining six miles from Absecon to Atlantic City. The previous schedule of eight trains daily between Philadelphia and Atlantic City is being reduced to five, the spokesman said. The Camden-Atlantic City service is being cut from two to one train.
