Walt Disney Studios acquired the Winnie The Pooh stories in 1961 and between 1966 and 1983 produced four short animated theatrical featurettes, including the Academy Award-winning Winnie The Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968) and Winnie The Pooh and Tigger TooiWi). Introducing Jim Cummings as the voice of "Pooh," The New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh reunited Paul Wichell (Tigger), John Fiedler (Piglet) and Hal Smith (Owl) who were voice-over artists in the original Pooh featurettes. The New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh represents Walt Disney Television's continuing commitment to producing quality family and children's One of Disney animation's most popular characters, Winnie the Pooh, makes his Saturday morning television debut when the first of 26 all-new episodes of The New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, an hour-long weekly animated series, premieres Saturday at 8:30 a.m. on ABC, locally WTSP-Channel 10 and WWSB-Channel 40.

A production of Walt Disney Television Animation, the series marks the first time that a classic Disney character will be seen on Saturday morning television. A combination of action adventure sequences and moments of whimsy, The New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh follows the escapades of Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Christopher Robin and the other Hundred Acre Wood characters made famous through A. A. Milne's internationally revered children's books and Walt Disney's original featurettes. "With Winnie The Pooh, we hope to set new standards of excellence in Saturday morning television.

This new series offers storytelling rich in language and values as well as delightful, well-acted characters," said Gary Krisel, senior vice president, Walt Disney Television. Winnie The Pooh represents television animation at its very finest, with characters more fully animated and artists using more drawings per minute than any other series currently available on Saturday morning television," added Michael Webster, Vice President, Walt Disney Television Animation. Technically, The New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh ffers the kinds of action and movement more comparable to the big screen rather than television animation.
