Bucher consultant to the president's council on physical fitness and sports The mod look for gals these days includes skin-tight hip luggers, mini skirts that end before they get started, see-thru bare midriffs, backless halter tops and no bras under Ringing knits.

Even once conservative males are wearing double knits that show off every ripple of muscle. The new look reveals and accentuates what's underneath. If it's a well-developed body and good posture, it's aesthetically appealing. Unfortunately, it too often reveals the forward head, sway back, protruding abdomen, drooping shoulders, sagging bust, knock-knees and other earmarks of poor posture. Good posture pays visual dividends.

If your posture is good, your appearance will be pleasing to others. Merely by standing correctly you can enhance your looks. A woman who tucks in tier pelvis, straightens her back and pulls back her shoulders can flatten her abdomen and increase her bust measurement. Another important benefit is physical in nature. Marty a backache is a result of poor posture.

The muscles and organs of your body are affected by the way you stand, sit. lie or walk. Good posture permits better circulation of the blood, efficient heart action and the proper functioning of other bodily organs. Posture refers to the relationship of the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems when the body is in motion or at rest. There are essentially two-kinds of posture.

Static posture refers to the body at rest. Dynamic'posture is the posture of the body in motion, while walking, running or moving in other ways. Whether static or dynamic, posture should be such that the muscular, skeletal and nervous systems are in position to function easily, gracefully and efficiently. Despite the possible variations due to muscle length, thickness of tissue, and bone size and placement, good posture has been attained if you show the four characteristics of (1) good body alignment. (2) ease of stance.

(3) good balance and (4) readiness of movement. This column will concern itself with standing posture. Future columns will cover sitting posture and dynamic aspects of posture involved in walking and running. You have good standing posture if an imaginary straight line passes from your head through your shoulders, your hips and down your legs to your ankles. Each body part should be balanced on the part below, much as each block in a pile of blocks balances on the block below.

If your body parts are balanced in this fashion and if an imaginary straight line bisects your body, you have good standing posture- To achieve good posture while standing, remember and observe the following eight points which I have pointed out in my book. "Physical Education For Life." (Webster Division. McGraw-Hill): 1. Keep your head balanced and your chin and eyes level. 2.

Keep your shoulders down, but hold them back without forcing, 3. Hold your chest up and out without straining. 4. Hold your abdomen in tightly. 5.

Hold your buttocks in tightly and down. 6. Keep your knees loose and relaxed. 7. Point your toes forward.

8. Distribute your weight evenly on both feet. If it is necessary to stand for a long time, periodically move one foot slightly ahead of the other. Many common postural problems can be corrected through special exercises. The physical education staff in your school or college is concerned with the appearance of young people and is also a good source of help for adults.

Contact them with your problems. Good posture requires constant attention at first. Once your muscles become accustomed to keeping you erect in a balanced, relaxed position, good posture will become a habit. Remember to stand tall. Your self-confidence, alertness, vitality or energy, and your capabilities as a physical being are all mirrored in the way you and move.

Therefore, developing good posture is an investment in yourself how you look, how you feel and how you perform. Good posture will result in your having a more positive self-image and in Qtherpeople having a better image of vou. Because so many more boys have enrolled in the Mini basketball league the following teams have been revised and some changes have been made from the first release.
