1871 City Improvement Bonds Board adjourned until Wednesday. THE RIVER. Weather auasl Arrivals and Dtparnna mt Bteamfesata, OFFICK OF THK PlCAYTTJOe, I Saturday Morning. Feb. lo.

1872. Mild and clear yesterday all the morning. the. afternoon the clouds bundled up rather darkly, but ere night separated again in the interest of good weather. The temperature since the late wet spell has ruled nnseasonably warm.

At the West it is mild enough to almost Insure the gradual decay of the gorges. The ice at Evanaville is rotting rapidly. It is still firm in the Ohio, but must soon gradually cut away. We long to hear of the release of the hve steamers locked np in the ice tioo near Columbus. The value of boats and cargoes thus imperilled is estimated at from two and a half to hve million dollars.

The gorge extends six or eight miles up the river. There is hope for the boats if it thaws out by mild weather but if it breaks up. or the whole gorge moves under the great water pressure, at least three of them must suiter, heavily. The Bodmann is raised up fifteen inches by the ice. rear the foot of the gorge, and about three lengths of herself from the shore lies the Bodmann the Illinois is some four hundred yards distant from her, across the channel; about three huu-ir-d yards above the Bodmann and near tne Kentucky shore lies the Longworth above her, some little further out.

is the ferry St. Louis, and still above some three-fourths of a mile from the foot of the gorge, is the Great Republic. As it f.nawlng at Cairo, however, the are that the ice bound steamers will all get away from limbo Scot free, 1 esterday's business on the Levee may be summed up as rather quiet, notwithstanding busy competition in the Red Kiver trade. There being nothing in for Ouachita River there was but little offering iu shipment. The Ouachita Belle and Maytlower are both here this morning and receiving to return this day.

The John T. Huorn is also at the land -ing loading for Red River, lo leave posi Lively this afternoon. The Belle brings 280O bales cotton, the John T. Moore Dales, and tti5 Maytlower inou nates. The departures yesterday included the Par goad to Fort Adams, Henry Tece to Donaldsonvllle, Hensley to Lower Coast.

S. Green, leaves positively this afternoon ior fct. Louis, taking freight for Memphis, the Bends, and all way points. A splendid boat is thiir same Richmond to either ship or travel on. The uladiola from Minden arrives Monday and leaves Wednesday.

The regular Camden packet Sabine arrives to-night with ItiUO oalea cotton and returns Monday afternoon. Get your freight ready ior her. The Thompson Dean will leave for Cairo and way. points on Wednesday, 14th luet-j positively. Capt.

J. W. Batchelor will back out the Potomac positively next Wednesday morning for Cincinnati. Louisville and all way landings. Most of our boatmen have their families with them on a pleasure trip to the city to witness the Mardi-Oras festivities.

May they all enjoy their visit and the occasion. This being closing packet day we look to see considerable doing on the landing. Shippers will remember that all the boats advertised for this afternoon leave positively on time. The river before the city is 13 feet 10 inches below high water mark. A dispatch to Capt.
