'Saturday, July 22, 1961 WELLSVILLE DAILY REPORTER, WELLSVILLE, NEW YORK Page Three Factory Shutdown Ends in Agreement The two-week work stoppage of Worthington Corp. Turbine Division plant here ended yesterday when a tons pact was signed. The signing followed a nearly unanimous "yes" vote afternoon by union members to a proposal worked out by company and union leaders. A formal joint statement by the company Moore Lodge 1580, JAM, only that work on re: pairs would resume today, and after their completion the plant would operate on two 10-hour shifts "to make up lost time and Unofficial information based on comments of many Worthinglon workers indicated the repairs would be made by the regular maintenance crew, and the extrahour shifts were to continue until workers had received overtime pay equal to the amount lost because of the shutdown. The official joint statement issued last night said: "The company and the union met.

today to prepare the details of a proposal to end the plant shutdown that began Monday, July 10, 1961. "The main points of the proposal contained the provisions for the completion of the repairs, and upon completion the plant will operate on two 10-hour shifts to make up lost time a and production. "The proposal was presented to the membership of the union at a mecting at 2 p.m. today (Friday), The group voted to accept the proposal. Work on the repairs will resume Saturday.

The plant will return to normal operations as soon as possible." The unofficial statements, by Worthington workers the vote favoring return to work under the agreement had been carried by a majority of 98 to 99 per cent. The same sources said the company was expected to call in extra workers if necessary to speed the repairs. The July 1 10 shutdown came when the union demanded the repair work on the factory's power plant, scheduled to be carried out that week by regular maintenance men, be done instead by men chosen according to seniority. Under the original schedule, production was to be halted during the week of July 10 while the repairs, began Saturday, July 8. were completed.

In a December announcement of the planned shutdown for the power plant overhaul, the company said workers desiring to so so might take the week as part of their vacation time. About half the workers did 60, and the other employes nct scheduled to work on the overhaul chose to face a workless, payless week instead of vacation at that time. MAN'S BODY RECOVERED FROM NIAGARA RIVER NIAGARA PALLS, Ont. (AP)The body of a man, believed to be one of four persons who died June 11 when their was swept over Niagara Falls, was recovered Friday night from the lower Niagara River. COUDERSPORT ESCAPEE CAPTURED AT GENESEO COUDERSPORT Thomas Franklyn Cox 19, who escaped Thursday afternoon from Potter County Jail here, was captured yesterday at Geneseo, officials here were advised.

The youth was arrested. by Geneseo police on a hitchhiking charge and sentenced to spend 10 days in Livingston County Jail. Authorities here sald the escapee had waived extradition and will be returned after his sentence has expired. He was in the Potter County Jail awaiting sentence on a burglary charge. GENESEE MAN UNINJURED WHEN CAR LEAVES ROAD COUDERSPORT Wilford Davis of Genesee escaped injury early yesterday when his automobile veered off a legislative highway north of here.
