It migjht be fun to have a fashion show with children modeling their clothes for spring and summer. While they are modeling, see how the clothes fit and what alterations need to be made suggests Ethel aker, Extension Home Economist.

Dresses that are too long or too short can be hemmed. Another way tolenghtenadress is to band of contrasting trim around the bottom. If a dress or blouse is too tight across the shoulders, It might be possible to cut out the sleeves. Pants and jeans that are too short can be cut off for warm- weather shorts 8 The sleeves on a boy shirt can be shortened. If the younger children object to wearing hand-me-downs, perhaps the old clothes can be made to seem like new Adding trim or an iron-on decoration might do the trick.

After seeing what the children will be able to wear, make a list of the things that they will need. By making a list and sticking to it while shopping, you should be able to save money on clothing purchases. Spring fashions have the "civilized" look. This is the term designers coined for the classic, soft, and feminine styles that are the look of this season. The extreme styles of the past seasons are termed "savage." What do civilized clothes look like? Shirtdressei, blazers, longer jacket suits, skirts in soft fabrics with soft details.

This observation was made by Bob Wisner, extension economist at Iowa State University. "It appears that the average cost per ton this spring will be around 6 to 10 percent higher than a year ago. Factors contributing to higher prices are increased waged in manufacturing and distribution and higher costs for materials and freight," he said. i UNITED METHODIST CHURCH HAWAftDEN, IOWA I I Chili Supper I APRIL 7 from 5:00 to 7:00 Stidtiti to Jr. High 75 Adilts $1.25 SPRING SPECIAL COATS SMART SHOP REX SAYS THESE CARS HAVE BEEN HERE TOO LONG SO DON'T MISS THE DEALS WE ARE GIVING TO GET OUR INVENTORY DOWN.
