There are some nice points of law which will be involved in the decision of the above case, as well as the reputation of the defendant. When the case is concluded we shall give a synopsis of it.

The jury in the case was yesterday discharged until Monday next. nfortunate ase. person who was not long ago a Commissary of the Vegetable Market, in the First Municipality, has, we learn, become perfectly demented by losing his situation. Not long ago he went into the Market and informed Ihe negroes who kept stalls, as to the price that they would have, to pay for llie sale of their vegetables, and also staled that he was going to sue the Municipality for $15,000 damages for depriv ing him of Iiis office. This we learn from an authentic and respectable source.

She pleaded innocence and was sent to jail for further examination. urglary Ferry was brought before llie Recorder of the First Municipality, yesterday, upon an accusation preferred against him by Jose Favrio, who lives at the corner of Barrack and anil Royal streets. The deponent accuses him of having entered his room by breaking into a window. He then got out of his bed alarmed by the noise, when the prisoner fled, lie pursued him and demanded of him the money that he had stolen.

The prisoner drew a bowie-knife upon him, and the deponent drawing another inflicted a slight wound upon the hip of his adversary. The case, as already stated, came up for trial yesterday, but owing to the non-appearance of the deponent, the accused was discharged. aution to rivers Giquel, Alderman of the Sixth Ward of the First Municipality, yeslerday made an affidavit before Recorder against Charles Brown and James Pattinger. He accused them of having put their Omnibusses into a gallop, thereby endangering the lives of the passers by on Chartres street. Each of the parties accused were sent to jail, by order of the Recorder, in default of paying a fine of ontemptible and illainous respectable looking woman by the name of Martha Beverly, yeslerday morning appeared before Recorder Baldwin in order to make an affidavit against a fellownamed Jason Taller.

Mrs. Beverly, it seems, occupies premises at No. 85 Phiiippa street. Taller yesterday morning very coolly walked in. when she asked him what he wanted.

He replied, I want you." She then ordered him out of her house, when he told her that if she dared to Open her mouth, he would break every thing in the house." lie then snatched up a table knife, and ordered Mrs. Beverly to give him "some of the feed" that she was mixing for a pet canary bird. She told told him that it was not fit to eat, but that he might have what was left on the plate. Taller then got very towards the deponent in a menacing attitude, and told her that if she dared to call an officer, he would fling a stone hich he had tied up in a handkerchief at her head. He then went into a back room and commenced brushing his hair, and on again ordered to leave, he grasped a basket containing needle work and spools of cotton, perfumery and several little ornaments, and broke them into pieces on i lie pavement.

Mrs. B. then went out, when Taller seized a basket of decomposed vegetables and threw them on her head. The Recorder sent the gallant gentleman to the First District Court. reach ok rust Gowan deposed before Recorder yesterday, that on the ult.

Discharged Miller, who was arrested some feu days ago on the charge of having received a quantity of dry goods which were stolen from the store of David Meyer, was yesterday morning discharged by Recorder There was no evidence of any felonious intent upon the part of Miller, but it is quite likely that the case will be submitted lo a civil tribunal. ischarged and Thomas Conner were yesterday examined before Recorder Baldwin, on the charge of having attempted to close the windows of the soul hungup the noses of two of their masculine opponents. Thomas Quinn and his orser half were yesterday brought before Recorder Baldwin for having despoiled the fair features of Margaret Ryan. They were accused of having gone to Margaret 's house, and after having pummeled her person, then pelted her premises with stones and bricks, and finally succeeded in bursting open the door of her apartment. Thomas Quinn was sent to the First District Court, and his wife was sent home.

When arrested, Angelina protested auai'nst being brought to the guard-house, accused all the watchmen with having been drunk, and insisted that she was a lady. Angelina was sent to the workhouse. eating a oman Moran yesterday made affidavit against Thomas Quinn, whom he accused of having seriously assaulted and beaten his wife, Mary Moran. The woman is now so ill from the effect of the blows inflicted, that it is feared she will not recover.

Quinn was sent to the First District Court on this charge, under bonds of $1500. Another affidavit was made against Quirui for having beaten a woman named Sarah Delaney. Upon this charge he was also sent to the First District Court, and failing to give, bonds, was sent to jail. obbery Ludrie yesterday morning deposed beliire Recorder that she was robbed on the night of the 29th by Jean Ceautereaux. Between one and two o'clock in the morn, ing, whilst asleep in her bed, she was awakened by the noise of some person getting into the window of her chamber.

She recognized the intruder at once, and found out that he had stolen jewelry and a watch to the. value in all of $75. Some of the articles stolen were found in possession of the prisoner. An unusual degree of dullness has prevailed in our marke for three days back, not only in Cotton, but in Provisions, Flour, and the latter, owing to further heavy receipts, has declined materially in price. In Corn, however, the transactions have been quite heavy. The Caledonia's letters came through yesterday, and also a telegraphic dispatch announcing the ariival of the llibernia at New York, with news seven days later still, reporting the Liverpool market again depressed, anil the advance noticed by the Caledonia lost. letters by the Caledonia failing to arrive ou Wednesday, the transactions of that day were only some 1500 bales at pretty steady prices. On Thursday, these advices coming through, (and less favorable than was anticipated,) together with a private dispatch announcing the arrival of the Hibernia, and a decline of at Liverpool, our market came nearly to a stand, the sales being scarcely 700 bales.

To-day the stagnation continues, and only some 800 bales have changed hands at. irregular prices, buyers claiming a decline of at least Our quotations, therefore, are entirely nominal, though we retain them until prices become somewhat settled. Thus the sales of the week are 18,000 bales, of which only 30u0 were taken in the past three days, mostly for the North. new orleans classification.
